Wtf, she's just blown my mind, how fucking awful can one person be.
I think an intelligent woman like her should know better.
She has said she doesn't recognise transgender women as women, and went in to say that "just because you lop off your dick, it don't make you a woman"

She is an arrogant arse.
Just because she once wrote a book, she thinks she is some sort of intellectual.
The book is actually bollocks; ( sort of pun intended!) it just became fashionable for awhile.

she's actually written about a dozen or so books over the the last 5 decades and numerous white papers. i've read a lot of them. her actions very often condradict what she's written, increasingly so as she's grown older to a point where she is now broadly irrelevant. |

I'm constantly amazed at how readily we as a nation believe that people from other countries do things better. I frequently see books claiming that the French bring their children up better, French women know how to dress, eat,age,have sex better...written by British people  .
If we would only eat like Mediterranean people we would be healthier, adopt American attitudes to customer service, Spanish attitudes to work our problems would all disappear.  |

As for the OP, it's not her place to tell people what gender they are. I don't really get the violence on yourself comment either but am sure i heard someone else say it years ago (might have been her idk who said it). |

She can have whatever view she wants but where she made the mistake in my opinion was when she questioned the existence of transphobia.
When we have so many well documented examples of transphobia it showed that her opinion wasn't based on her interpretation of biology/academia but that she held personal prejudice. |

In her speech she didn't discredit people of any gender.....

The process of transition, is hard, physically, emotionaly and mentally, transgender people not only have to deal with changes within themselves, but they have to deal with those changes after a period of inner turmoil, then there are always going to be family members that won't accept those changes, then there's the name calling, the dirty looks, the possibility of assault.
It's a long process of uncertainty, and turmoil.
And quite frankly, anyone who goes through all that, to be the woman/man they believe they should have been born to be, damn well deserves to be called whatever the fucking like, they've earned it |

Did she even stop to think of the 60% of transgender teenagers that commit suicide, I'm not transgender, but I'm close to someone who is, and I fear that comments like hers are unhelpful at best |

The issue for us is clear in that those who want to change the deck they were dealt and are willing to go through all the trauma that has been adequately described here are probably brave and strong willed.
However, if they expect it all done on the NHS so that everyone else has to pay for it then that is wrong.
Same applies to fertility treatment or cosmetic enhancement etc IOP. |

Before meeting my better half I was completely in the "once a man, always a man" camp so I can understand (and forgive?) those that hold those views.
However, since meeting her I have changed my mind.
Erika has not had, and never intends to have "the op", but it's impossible to know her and not view her entirely as a woman.
I can only assume those that refuse to consider trans people to be the gender they consider themselves to be don't truly know any trans people. |
