a day out to France? ?

It's something I've done and enjoyed, where do you plan to go Calais or Dieppe? I just enjoy mooching round the shops, having lunch etc. so not much help with what to do.
Have you considered eurostar? |

"Got two teenage daughters to keep entertained as well. I have no idea maybe eurostar will be faster just need to figure out what to do"
Eurostar is quicker and you could go to Paris, plenty to do there |

London / Herts |
The ferry over to Calais isn't so bad in the summer. If it's just for the day, wander around the shops a little, sit on the beach, and then go for dinner at one of the seafront restaurants.
You could potentially have a day trip to Paris if you took the Eurostar, but you'd have to catch an early train. |

"The SeaCat was a journey to remember.
shame they stopped the hovercrafts"
The Cat was fast but scary. It bounced off the waves. I would have to sit throughout the whole journey now |

Yep:
About 2hrs London- Paris .
Easy journey. Paris is brilliant . Loads to do: loads of Music, galleries, shows, shops, or visit an area like Mobtmartre.
Or stay overnight, you can get a decent hotel for about 50/60€ a night.
Alternatively ferry or tunnel to Calais (Tunnel is about 40 minutes) and about about 45 minutes drive down the coast to somewhere like Le Touquet. Or 30 mins to Boulogne.
When I lived in London, regularly went over for lunch.
If taking the car, go with a nearly empty fuel tank, then you can fill up with petrol or diesel at the equivalent if about 85p per litre, and fill the boot with decent wine ( at about half the price of UK). Oh, and fags ( if you are interested) are 6.50€ for 20. That saving pays for lunch and probably the ferry ticket too.

used to take a regular trip when I was working in Dover, took the ferry after work had dinner bought some booze & fags got back around midnight.
now I pop over a few times a year for Weekends, but it's becoming a pain getting through immigration these days,
I would go Eurostar Disney or Paris depending on age. |

Definitely, love walking through Paris' street and get lost, find places that you would find in a tourist books, meet differents people on the outskirts...

"Is it worth it? Jump on ferry in the morning back at night?? Where can you go?? What can you do??"
We go to France quite often but via the tunnel. It's an hour from Calais to Lille which is nice, there's loads of German ww2 stuff and the beach at Calais is sandy. There's also a shopping centre for wine and cheese etc. We go for the day. It's good fun. |

Paris in a day is easily doable
Take the car on le shuttle there is a shopping Mall and designer outlet right by the exit. Take a trip into Calais for lunch at a local brasserie in the old town. Stock up on good quality wines at the local warehouses (the pound is doing ok against the euro) head down to Le Touquet for the beach.
For Disneyland Paris I would suggest two overnight stays to get the most out of the parks. |

I've done it a few times. Boulougne is nice in France and only an hour from Calais. Going the other way you have oostend or bruge in Belgium not much more than an hour.
Definitely worthwhile and you can stock up on wine! |

Dover-Calais
You can get to Boulogne-sur-Mer and Le-Touquet
Am French and would say avoid Calais and Lille, best stay on the coast.
Portsmouth-Le-Havre
You can get to Le-Havre which has got bigger and better over the last few years
You can get to Etretat but best go down Honfleur, lovely town and restaurants, further down Deauville, houlgate and cabourg.
I am from North of France and would recommend staying on the coast if you are going for the day. Lots of traditional villages you can stop to, have a wee swim and fine a decent restaurant and wee shops.
Hope this helps. Have fun x
