A group of police motor cyclists escorting a Top Gear team to the Cenotaph. OK the Top Gear stunt here is another thread. But who foots the bill for the police who have closed roads, escorted the car etc?

We don't see many police patrols on the roads and we often read about police cuts etc etc, so how can they afford to support this event?

I don't know but thought that the police charged the organizers of private events, so I would assume the BBC foot the bill (which will probably be a small amount compared to global sales).

The organisers of the event.

on the road to nowhere in particular

The police don't do anything like that for nothing. All police at football matches have to be paid for. That's why clubs now have so many stewards

solihull

It has already been quoted by the top gear team that they paid for both the road closures and the police presence

No, I wouldn't go that far but take your point.

I'm still not convinced that the tax payer ends up paying one way or another for this outward display of policing when we don't see enough police where they're needed.

The police love it, the organisers pay and everyone is on overtime

It's what the public want. Read vast majority of newspapers articles and a percentage of comments in here. You'll now have privatised companies enforcing laws and no discretion with everything being profit based.

With regards to your original post then as others stated it's all paid for by the organiser and won't affect any normal activities.

I think you will find that TG paid to have the road closed and for every member of the emergency services that was present.
