So i know theres a few of us who lurk around the lounge; creeping others out with our heavy tastes.

However metal is as diverse as rock in general these days.

I would like your band reccomendations. For me, im a lyrics girl, so nothing that sounds like screaming throughout, i just wont like it.

Bands i like already to give you an idea...

Blindside

Dope

Drowning pool

Evans Blue etc

I dont mind a little heavy, for example my current favourtite song is die mf die by dope

What kind of lyrics do you like? I love a good fantasy and historical story which is why i always enjoyed Maiden, dio, priest etc.

I'm currently into a lot of Viking style stuff like Tyr and Amon Amarth although possibly a bit shouty for you.

Voodoo 6 have a new record out soon, good band. The new Anthrax record is good, and Belladonna can certainly sing.

Anyone into a band called Electric Wizard? Pure fucking awesomeness right there. Not sure Deftones can be classed as Metal because they do fuse many styles these days however I've not found another band who sound quite like them. Being able to go from being heavy to dreamy and beautiful effortlessly with some of the most clever written lyrics going. Plus they're probably perfect to listen to whilst getting it on

A Chicago based metal band on rick Rubin's def American label back in the 90's.

The CD is long deleted and quite pricey now.

I have it somewhere and keep meaning to dig it out and rip it.

Their albums since are very good if not as good.

Yes! A Metal thread! Something I can talk about day. Although there is a danger I would just start rattling off every band I've band I've ever listened to. So I won't. Most of what I listen to has harsh vocals because its mostly Black Metal and Doom with some Death and Thrash thrown in. I know a lot of people hate the harsh vocal stuff but try to think of it as more of an instrument that's adds to he genral appeal. Wodenthrone are a good example of that. Musically they couldn't be any more beautiful and atmospheric. My first loves are Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath/Rainbow/DIO/Merciful Fate/King Diamond/Motorhead/Judas Preist. Can't go wrong with those bands. Ghost are a band I would recommend to anyone.

Ha. Just about to mention them! Had never really listened to SLayer but came across them at one of the first Downloads and they were fucking awesome. Just a very heavy, brilliant rock and roll band(in a similarish way to Motorhead but thrashier).

Good shout out for Pitchshifter. WSYIWIG is ace!

I'm into a band called king810 at the minute. Folky kinda gangster metal. Angry stuff. Do some acousticy stuff to.

Also really getting into a bit of southern metal at the moment such as the obvious Down, Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity and Hell Yeah, there's also Texas Hippie Coalition, Black Stone Cherry, Black Water Rising and Devil's Train. All very manly.

I love my modern metal but as soon as I hear "The Priest" I become possessed by the urge to bang my now shiny bald head just like in the teenage days when I had long lustrous locks many of the lovely ladies of fab would be envious of!!!

Breaking the law...breaking the law!!!

And on the subject of southern metal/rock I highly recommend zakk wyldes "pride & glory" album from the pre B.L.S. era.

Think that happened after Blind Tyrant which was their break through album. It's so easy to come up with a Tim Sult riff by just picking up a guitar. From Beale Street To Oblivion was a great record but was already following a familiar pattern.

I just a saw a comment about SYL. I fucking love Devin Townsend. One of Metal's greatest performers and the last of a dying breed of Rock star. I saw Devon Townsend Band and SYL on the same bill in a small club in London with Zimners Hole. One of the best gigs I've seen.
