I've got nothing better to do so I'm interested in your replies.
Here's the question.
You've gone to a city for a day, we will say Cambridge (there's a reason I've said Cambridge) your in the centre and you get lost. You have nothing on you like a phone. You have to really on your thinking.
You get lost.
How would you get yourself unlost.
I will tell you what I'd do at the end |

Ask a postman for directions. More chance of finding a postie than a copper. |

Being a man , I would work it out myself without asking for assistance . As time passes and it goes dark , I would hope for a clear night so the stars could guide me , failing that , I would sleep on a bench and resume my mission at first light ! |

You're only lost if you have somewhere you need to be & can't find that place.
If no-one around I would look for nearest shop or pub. Tourist information or a bookshop ideally as they would have maps. TI is normally signposted as are police stations & courts. |

From the street where you are now follow the house numbers from highest to lowest. Keep doing this from street to street till you turn into a street where you are at the lowest numbers. You are now in the city centre. |

I'm sure if it was a reliable meet (time waster) and they couldn't find your house , they would search for hours , ask everyone local shops the police local radio studio ... And go home feel so upset about it and swear wouldn't happen again |

There is a reason you said Cambridge?
Go into Cambridge University and ask for help with the directions where you want to go? Heard those Cambridge folk are pretty clever. ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

Wow never thought of that. I was lost in brum last week and no ome would give me directions. I did look a bedraggled mess after dragging my suitcase in the rain and snow for an hour. In the end i found a taxi rank and hopped in a cab. Although he didnt want to take me at first. Said it was a short walk.
I said give me directions then and long story short he ended up taking me and complaining the whole way about diversions and how long it would take him to get back xx |

Brilliant, loved the answers as I said no right or wrong
Deeviante made me laugh, why would you ask me what time of day and why where you there. Your the one that took yourself of to Cambridge and got lost I don't know what you where doing there
Chorus seems to be there on some secret undercover mission only a couple used the fact that it was Cambridge and used things associated with Cambridge.
Noone said what I'd do.
What I'd do is head straight for the river as whether you've been to Cambridge or not you know it's got a bloody great river running through it

"What do you do once you get to the river?
Find a nice pub and get tipsy? " because if it was me, I'd be there just to look round not be in one particular place and I would of just lost my bearings, maybe wondered up out to far. So I'd head downhill to the river and get my bearings back

I've been lost in a forest near here once a few years ago
Was really scary as I had the kids with me and zero reception on my phone
I found a road in the end |

"If it's light then I'd probably get a feel for orientation from the sun. Id look for someone who appears to be the local and ask for help. " your answer made me laugh as well Sophie, sounds as though your on Dartmoor rather than a city centre ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |
