So? did the USA really land on the moon and if so why have they never returned with advanced technology to carry out further studies?
Among other things they point to the lack of stars in photographs from the Moon and the fact that the U.S. flag placed on the surface appears to flutter, despite being in a vacuum.
Nasa has painstakingly rebutted the doubters over the years, but in 2002 astronaut Buzz Aldrin resorted to physical violence to make his point, punching a documentary maker who claimed the Moon missions were faked.
India and Japan both plan to place astronauts on the lunar surface in 2020, with Japan proposing to build the first ever Moon base in 2030.
Amazing how India can do this but still receives overseas aid from UK
So has there really been a man on the moon in years gone past

For every amateur nothing better to do conspiracy nut theory point raised, NASA provided plausible responses. Obviously that kind of destroyed any theory...so they just get rebuked.
The whole world watched the landings, including the USSR who had have loved to have had credible evidence to disprove they happened.
They landed...a few times actually. |

Well there will always be conspiracy theories, maybe there isn't a space station up there, Our brains only learn from what we are told or what we see. So if you haven't actually been an astronaut you will just have to go by what you have seen on tv or what you have read lol I for one think they did goto the moon but not sure why they never returned, maybe they saw a martian lol |

And the stars... the lunar landscape is so bright that the camera exposure settings to take a good lunar landscape photo are not sensitive enough to image the much (much Much MUCH) fainter stars that are in the lunar sky. If the camera was set to record the stars, the moonscape would be washed out white and featureless. |

I personally don't think so.....they need so much rocket power to take of from Earth but where was the power to return them and how come no one has managed a follow up in all these decades |

The power required to exceed earth's gravity far exceeds the power needed for sustained flight while in zero G.
Simply put, think of it as waking to your local shops with heavy weights tied around your ankles, would take a lot of effort. Half way there you can let the weights go, carry on and then return back home
It's the initial part that requires the biggest effort. |

"well i watched nick parks documentary called "a grand day out" and i'm utterly convinced they did land there.

His follow up documentary, on the dangers on the abuse of robotics should the fall into the wrong hands, was a masterpiece ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

They set a mirror up on the moon, we've been bouncing lasers off it for about 30 years!.
Plus there's the dozen guys who've actually walked on it, pictures, film...

"I love how the OP still manages to find space in his post to have a swipe at foreign aid "
You better believe it, some of the taxes that are deducted from your wage slip each week/month and heading across to India even though they have a highly developed space program and don't need our funding
I would prefer we focused on the poor in the UK before we start throwing cash around the world, knowing that the cash isn't even getting to the people in most need of it. |

"Havent we had a tgread about this, this week? Is it an anniversary or something?"
I'm waiting for the next conspiracy theory post....probably the one about how lizards rule the planet disguised as royalty/top politicians etc..... |

I guess some people believe anything they watch on tv. To be fair though the docu on the moon landing was pretty convincing xx |

If the Japanese don't call it Moonbase Alpha I will be very upset.
-
As for Buzz Aldrin punching the documentary maker - if someone was (effectively) calling me a lair and trying to discredit one of the greatest human achievements of the twentieth century, yes I'd probably pop him one on the nose. |

Does anyone seriously believe that at the height of the cold war with Russia the USA could out shine Russia by taking the lead in the space race by claiming to land on the moon without actually doing it?
The Russians would have exposed them immediately and taking great pleasure in doing so.
Yes the landings were real yes man walked on the moon and yes bits of the landers are still on the moon surface
That does not mean film was not processed, enhanced and possibly in a few cases faked.

The cameras which went had crosses etched in to the lenses for reference marks.
This means that any photographs taken should have those crosses on them - these are missing from some photos which could only mean that the astronauts were added later.
I've yet to see a convincing explanation for this...so I do question the first American landing |

What happened to the Apollo rocket that took the men to moon? It may have been easy to fake a walk about on the moon in a studio but that was a big rocket and lots of people saw it take off. With people inside it I assume. It didn't fly itself. Did it? |

Man travelled to, orbited, landed and walked on the moon.
If after all the irrefutable evidence of the above you still don't believe this, then let me apologise in advance for this:
You are a fucking idiot.
Pitting aside the the achievement istself for a moment, the maths has been done to calculate how long a conspiracy like that would last before being exposed.
Based on those directly and indirectly involved in putting a man on the moon (about 400,000 people) if it were faked then it would have been exposed in three years.
It wasn't.
We went.
It happened. |

Isn't the internet great. People can have opinions and the gullible then regard them as irrefutable facts.
Of course we went to the moon, overwhelming evidence to prove it - the key word here is evidence! Jeez ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

Yes, they did. However they found the moon was made of fairly boring rocks and not cheese as expected, so there wasn't much point in going back.
As for Buz, if I has constantly had weirdos telling me the apex of my career was faked, I don't think I would have been so restrained as to wait over 30 years before punching someone! |

"Well its not like thay have been back with the technology thay have and like mars really thay cant get nobody on there so do u really think thay did ??"
Of course they did. Had they tried to fake it the Kremlin (among others) would have had a collective orgasm at the time in exposing it. I think most of the conspiracy theory's are based on too many people watching re-runs of Capricorn One.
Mars however is a completely different ball game.
The Apollo 11 mission to the Moon was eight days in total. A mission to Mars would be well over a year (at best)
They would need to take everything with them, food, water, air, fuel for the return journey, medical equipment, basic drugs Etc Etc. For a mission of that length it would be a logistical nightmare. Then there are the effects of prolonged weightlessness on the human body, something which is still being learned.
While complicated, sending a robot on a one way trip is a walk in the park compared to sending people and, most importantly, having to get them back.
One other thing I can say for certain is that O.J.Simpson never made it to Mars. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

It is utterly preposterous that the US could have faked the Moon landings.
Thousands of NASA workers involved in the cover up and NONE of them spoke?
The USSR would have blown it wide open - if it were true.
And get this - with a half decent refracting telescope it is possible to see the landing sites of all six missions from the Earth. You can see what they left behind... |

Now this we agree on
My Dad worked there and said the same. Too many involved for someone not to have spoken.
And the telescope thing is irrefutable ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I'm sure I've seen it written somewhere it would have cost more to fake it (including the cost of buying off all the witnesses) than it actually cost to go there |
