We were quoted over £1k 10 years ago for similar including all materials & labour. Ex went to college, learnt brick building & did it himself instead.

It's just not a case of putting bricks down in Lego on the carpet

You will need foundations . Wether it's single brick or double

What type of brick as well

I would say anything less than 2 k and it will be sub standard

Materiel and workmanship

Bricks will cost you about 400 pounds.. labour costs will vary depeding on the foundations of where the wall will be built.. ie soil.. concrete etc.. you are talking around 3 days work...

Seriously? I doubt the foundations would need to be that deep and 4x1m is small for a wall. 2k is ridiculous - its a day or two worth of work max.

I was quoted £1800 for 8 steps in my garden including a small wall on one side of the steps. It's dearer than you think!

His work paid - some kind of tax dodge I think as they all did courses but it couldn't be work related!! It was a City & Guilds course

My rough estimate too.. labout cost would increase though if building on concrete and if i would need to get hold of a concrete digger to build a foundation etc

dig foundation and pour footings - 1 day

lay 5 courses of block 10 blocks long pillar either end aprox 70 blocks (or just one end if tied into existing wall aprox 60 blocks) and make good - aprox 2 days

3 days labour @ £150 per day

aprox £150 materials

total £600 inc.

brick wall will clearly cost more.

I couldn't afford the steps, so I got a spade, made the dangerous irregular steps into a slope and put in some big rocks. Rockery / slope. No steps and no bill.

I've been quoted £1k to relay my garden slabs (& a few other small bits of repair work). Bearing in mind the slabs do not need to be bought.... And that's mates rates!!!

I very much doubt your back garden can be improved upon by any stretch of imagination. x

You will need 476 LBC Common Brick 65mm to build a 4m x 1m double skinned wall. These are usually sold in packs of 390. So, you'll need two packs at a total cost of £614.26 delivered or if the bricklayer is supplying, then £374.86 + delivery

You will also need 3.264 cu m of concrete for the foundation, which costs approximately £100 per cubic meter, so, £326.40

Materials required will be brick ties, cement and sand

You will need to pay a labourer to dig for the foundation which will cost £55 and then you will need to pay for the excess soil to be removed

A bricklayer will charge you anywhere between £85 - £125 per day. The work involved in laying 476 bricks in a double skinned wall with brick ties and pointing will take 1.5 days but the cost will be for 2 days

I think that anyone charging you less than £1,500 will make a loss

And no, I am not a builder but I have access to calculators on the Internet

Built my own deck, 24'x16'. On already solid founds, frame and 50 lengths of decking cost me around £430 including screws and that was at staff discount prices!

Gardening is expensive lol

You can mix your own concrete for a third of that cost with ballast and cement. But the rest isn't far off. I would say £1000-£1200 is about average

Plant a miniature hedge. It's nicer to look at and will attract wildlife
