Do you remember the wallpaper craze whereby you had two different patterned wallpapers divided by a patterned border.

I do have ornate coving and ceiling roses. I live in a very old house and would be terrified that the ceiling would come down if they were ever removed. I still have original fireplaces in bedrooms too but it's in keeping with the age of the house and I do love them.

I've stripped more than my fair share of diagonally positioned polystyrene ceiling tiles. Need to be careful of the coving, of course. Then skimmed the ceiling to a lovely smooth finish.

polystyrene ceiling no way dont want molten plastic dripping on you if they catch fire

as goes for cornices ive had to save many of them they look really nice.

but there a pain to work with sanding them down for a repaint or if they get fire damaged

dropping the the center ceiling and replastering it is ackward.

painting the cornices and the fancy ceiling rose is another matter when people really want it looking fancy

we looked at one similar and declined, the owners had artexed every ceiling and had to boot also done the complete open plan lounge/kitchen hall and stairs..

wasn't even smooth, bloody atrocious looking and not safe..

East Sussex

Our house which we moved in to in October was an homage to the early eighties. There was no polystyrene but we lived for several months with a pampas green bathroom suite complete with over head shower that trickled water out at a rate of a litre a month and a hall and kitchen completely panelled in dark tongue and groove. My dad bless his heart couldn't understand why we were changing it.
