So, just to start off I will explain a little more in detail...
Last week whilst driving my coach, happily singing along to a bit of music from the radio, a customer on board rudely shouted at me to 'turn that crap down' because it was interfering with their hearing aid!
They reported me to the controllers at the stop they wanted (rail replacement transport) and thought themselves very smug for doing so.
So this weekend I have my blue tooth in, and again im happily singing along to a bit of Phil Collins (sorry bad choice in music) and again I had someone poke me in my back...WHILST DRIVING and told me quite loudly to 'STOP singing and concentrate on driving'
At the next set of red lights, I pulled up and turned round to the customer and asked her is she had a problem with me being happy in my work!
When she got off the coach, she approached a controller and reported me, they then came over and asked me to give my best rendition of any song, then said 'hmmm not bad' carry on as you are. Haha
So to ask the question here, do I keep being happy in my job or do I turn into a miserable fuck and keep quiet whist working?
Over to you.... |

go for it! I sing while I mix concentrated chemicals, conduct invisible orchestras with fresh scalpels or cut throat razors, and air guitar in the middle of repairing kit, once with the skeletons arm.
my manager tends to walk in, laugh and say " I'm glad you enjoy the job".
don't think any of my predecessors liked AC/ DC or rock much. .. |

Maybe your clients dont want to hear you singing no matter how good you think you are. Surely singing isnt the only way to show your happy in your job.
When we go on coach trips the driver usually has comedy sketch cds for people to listen to |

As someone subjected to the annoyance of rail replacement buses quite often I can honestly say I could care less what the driver is doing as long as they turn up and run on time.
If I was on a coach for a longer journey it might irritate but I'd usually have headphones in anyway |

Your sense of entitlement is the problem.
Do the job your paid for.
You are employed to drive passengers from one place to another.
It's not a day out for you.
Concentrate on your driving.
Sing in your own time. |

Your scenario wouldn't bother me but working alongside colleagues that sing & hum usually out of tune grates on me big time.
Sing in your own time so I don't have to listen ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Its not your coach though, your just a driver paid to take customers from A to B..
If there was a person on the coach being disruptive to others what would you do? |

Well I hold up my hand and admit to loving Phil Collins......especially in the air tonight
Can just imagine you at your wheel getting into that one
Not everyone's taste but ask them what their preference would be and see if you can sing to it
Some of their choices might suprise you
Keep up the good work
Wish my working place was that happy

They actually pay for a train ticket, if they don't produce one on my coach they are still allowed on, so in fact they are not paying for my services, abellio rail are paying due to the lines being worked on. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I love people who sing at work. If I walk into a shop and the assistant is singing it lifts me and makes me happy. There is no such thing as bad singing. The worse it is, the more it makes me smile
I used to work in a big engineering factory and one of the old boys used to sing at the top of his voice. His songs were interspersed with people yelling "Bert, shut the fuck up!" I would be crying I was laughing so much. |

Do a quiz over the speaker thing. If you don't have a speaker thing then your coach sucks.
"Good morning/afternoon/evening ladies and gentlemen. On our short trip today between station and station I will be doing a sing along quiz. You will find a pencil and piece of paper inside your fold down trays and what I'd like you to do is write down the name of the song that I'm singing and join in if you like, and as we approach our destination I will reveal the answers and you can score yourself. There are a bowl of individually wrapped sugar free sweets waiting for anyone who takes part in this quiz. And for those of you who would not like to join in, please chat quietly amongst yourselves or you can find ear plugs on your seat. I will sing the chorus of each track and you can sing along if you like or just write down the answers. Good luck everyone, here we go!"
I'm massively bored so there ya go...

Diamond... I NEVER said it's blaring out, it's just about audible for me in the front, and it's NOT playing on the speakers in the back where customers are sitting.
Maybe instead of getting on your high horse (a noisy one too) and complaining, try finding out the facts first ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

It's all very well for you to feel happy but not at the expense of everyone else.
To have people get up and complain it must have been pretty atrocious to listen to.
People who whistle and sing loudly around strangers are usually arrogant and way too 'pleased with themselves' |

I don't have an opinion either way on him singing or playing music in his coach...
But most up to date hearing aids are not effected by everyday sounds.. Including music, singing etc... If the hearing aid is also up to date.. They will have a sound control on it to reduce any sound interfering badly...

" I don't know as in fairness this was a few years ago and it was someone with double over the ear hearing aids, so maybe I have overreacted to that a bit but surely if someone asks you to turn it down then you should and especially having two complaints says its not just one person. I wish I could speak to you face to face or speak to the company who MUST pay YOU to offer a service to the public.
She was a paying customer. Her age is immaterial.
I don't have a hearing aid. I'm healthy and active and still work a full time job.
You are unable to reason and shouldn't be allowed to be anywhere near the public.

I donlt need to take it up with them. I'm just slightly surprised a bus driver would think that they are offering a free service for people that have paid for train tickets |

They have paid for it!
They have laid for a rail ticket to go from a to b; probably for work?
And now they have to break the journey to take a bus!
So they are entitled to a good journey;
And if the driver of my bus was irritating me, I would complain. |

Mr Marmite. I wish bus drivers around here smiled and sang as they drove. Playing the drums at traffic lights.....bloody brilliant. It's great to see someone enjoying their job.
Being on a train replacement service delays peoples journeys, maybe that's why some passengers are grumpy.
If I was on your bus I would be calling in at the office, to report you to management too. To thank them for providing a fun friendly driver. Shame no one offers positive feedback, but people seem quick to moan.
Keep it up Mr Marmite. |

I would find it amusing to have a singing coach driver up to a point, depends how long I have to put up with it and if they were actually any good at singing
But one who turns aggressive and nasty and seems to enjoy winding people up more than actually enjoying singing to be happy in his work is something else |

Everyone who has said NO to the singing gets called grumpy.
It's just insulting people when you can't get your own way. Just like kids who haven't any idea of community or responsibility.
Some people are shattered after working day in day out, have family problems, are racing to get to their kids , off to hospital, are trying to think... the journey could be the only time in the day when they get head space......
They are not grumpy or old or bats or anything else....... they're just bus passengers. |

Marmite you keep on belting out the classics. For every miserable git who complains there's at least double that chuckling away to themselves I'm sure. As this thread has proved there are people who will take exception to just about anything. You can't please all the people all the time so just please yourself. Stay happy. |

Not entirely true, I work in a busy hospital and have many times walked past a patient with hearing aids in situ that were squealing and causing the person considerable pain due to the noisy environment. These people may also struggle to control the settings depending on their knowledge of how to aid works.
In Britain we very much have a 'ignore the annoying thing and mutter in silence' type of view about things, so for 2 people to report you OP there must be something drastically wrong with your singing. Maybe for everyone's comfort you could keep your singing to a minimum/join an accapella club? |

Kopite, I wasn't singing loudly or being annoying, imagine your sitting on the coach and the radio is playing (or cd) and someone is singing QUUETLY... maybe the front seat passengers can hear but not the whole coach!
This was the situation, nothing like what has been mentioned by other users on here this evening.
As for the lady that POKED me in the back whilst driving, SHE could have caused an accident as I was not expecting a sharp finger poking me whilst concentrating on driving.

"Kopite, I wasn't singing loudly or being annoying, imagine your sitting on the coach and the radio is playing (or cd) and someone is singing QUUETLY... maybe the front seat passengers can hear but not the whole coach!
This was the situation, nothing like what has been mentioned by other users on here this evening.
As for the lady that POKED me in the back whilst driving, SHE could have caused an accident as I was not expecting a sharp finger poking me whilst concentrating on driving.

I really do understand that there's not really an issue with your singing as such, and sometimes when someone is grumpy even the tiniest thing will set them off and cause them to complain (believe me I've been complained about for being too cheerful at work before - minus the singing).
It was just disappointing to read some of your replies to people who posted on this thread... ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

As someone who had to get the lovely rail replacement buses for a month in Essex at the start of January, the buses were deadly quite and it was lovely because I could actually chat with ads, the one time we couldn't was when the bus driver had the football on, which we both dislike.
It's annoying enough to have another 20 mins on your journey, having to wait in the cold for the bus to turn up and sit on a sometimes stale smelling coach with loads of other people (not for a moment am I saying yours is, you know the ones), so yeah we do have the right to complain, our journeys have been ruined enough by the rail works going on, I'm sure you are a wonderful singer but please be considerate of your passengers that have been messed around enough, had to start their journeys way before they usually do just to get home on time. Sing when their isn't anyone on board or maybe ask your passengers first.

"Love a bit of in car singing "
CARaoke is the way forward.
I sing lots; at work (generally in the privacy of my office), in the car, around the house and this weekend in an artist's studio because he had the radio on and Here Comes The Sun came on.
I am a little loopy though. |

"They are getting a FREE SERVICE so I am gonna do whatever I fekkin want! Sing loud and proud! "
So why are you asking?
If you're gonna keep singing anyway, surely it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks?
For me personally, a cheery bus driver in the mornings makes me smile. I've tweeted our bus company several times telling them how nice it is to have a pleasant, cheerful driver. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I like a bit of Phil Collins, but badly sung from the front of a rail replacement bus that I'm already pissed off about having to get on? No, fuck that, it would irritate the hell out of me. |

That's pretty arrogant. I didn't take offence. Nothing happened to take offence to.
You fail to see that the fault is yours. If someone holds a different view it's YOU that takes offence.
Hence your need to hate, start threads and insult.
All I did was put my point of view. That doesn't mean i'm offended.

God how I hate those coach drivers who sing, or tell jokes thinking that they are being amusing and entertaining.
By all means be happy in your job, but don't inflict your awful singing or ill judged humour on those of us that have to sit and endure it.
Just be pleasant and focus on driving safely
