Well I rarely find them funny anyway. Not (deliberately) trying to be sexist (although I guess I probably am) - am I right or am I wrong?
First person to say 'Sarah Millican (or Miranda) is hilarious' gets a slap

Women should stick to using their mouths for blowjobs . Any other use is just pointless |

Some are hilarious, its just that there are a lot less female stand ups, and they don't get as well known.
To make things fairer in the 'generalising post of the day', there are very few male stand ups I find funny as well. |

I agree I've been to many stand up festivals and shows and I've never ever seen a single female stand up comedian that's made me laugh |

See, I'm not deliberately being obtuse here but what I can see above is a list of people (when I recognise them) that I don't find particularly funny.
But then it's just as well everyone has a different sense of humour as I find Milton Jones hilarious and nobody else I know does. So horses for courses and all that
And I don't find Mrs Browns Boys funny at all but 'Allo 'Allo is fantastic. |

"Amy Schumer. "
While sometimes funny, she's recently been busted for plagiarising other people's work, in some cases word for word except swapping character names. When asked about it she claimed not to be responsible for where her writing team gets inspiration from. |

I'm not so keen on her current series, she seems to have lost it a bit. She's still hot as fuck though. ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

I don't find many funny.
Sarah Millican is about as funny as as a dose of the clap.
Sarah Silverman is about the same too.
Catherine Tate just tries too hard.
Kathy Burke's funny. |

Sarah Silverman, She pulls !no! punches.
Lucy Montgomery,Jo brand , Joan rivers . Lisa Lampanelli: - literally too many to individually name.
Depends on your tastes really but many comediennes more than bring *the funny* and then some. |

Ah I've only heard of Christie, Calman and Suttie from those (and only from the 6.30om comedy slot on Radio 4 on the drive home) and, sorry, they fail to raise a smile here ..
I must have a peculiar sense of humour. I used to find Emo Phillips hilarious and again nobody else I knew ever did

From a recent study.......
"The study, undertaken for the journal Evolutionary Psychology, set up 50 unlucky couples, previously unknown to each other, on blind dates and videoed them having a 10 minute conversation using prompts. Afterwards, they were asked to rate their “dating interest” in the other person and researchers re_iewed the videos, looking for humour and the response.
The study found both men and women made similar amounts of attempts to be funny, but women laughed a lot more in response to men being humorous than men did in return. As well as this, the more a woman laughed at her partner, the higher the dating interest was, whereas with men, there was no such correlation."
Apparently men _iew comedy as their domain and like to have women appreciate their humour and not be competition ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I know a lot of very funny women, but it seems fewer translate that to mainstream comedy success. I don't think it's that women are inherently less funny - some of my friends are absolutely hilarious - but maybe there's something about the industry and the way comedians "make it" that deters them. |

I think it's true to say that lots of men don't like women to be funny, they find it threatening.
I'm not suggesting that's the case with the op. |

Likewise, I know friends and colleagues that make me laugh so hard I cry, and I always think they're so much funnier than the 'commercial / mainstream' comedians. You might be right ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Yup, some (men and women) expect women to be the passive butt of jokes, when a comedienne is self effacing and genuinely funny... It's threatening to them.
Lots of very unfunny male comics coasting along on the same tired ,stale material. That guy with the very obtuse teeth from Liverpool, as nice as him seems as a person: he's the most benign , boring "comic" . that MacIntyre guy.. They're both dull as dish water . humour is subjective though.
One person's funny and all of that. |

Trouble is a lot of their humour is based on the fact that they're women. It's dull. Like gay comedians who base their act on the fact they're gay. Or gingers talking about being ginger etc etc. Boring. Still one of my favorite standup sketches is Bill Bailey's "sirens"... |

Don't find any mainstream women funny at the moment. Used to like Jo Brands original stuff quite good.
However went to a stand up night and it had an Australian lady who tore the place up. I wish I knew her name she dealt with heckling like a boss and was the funniest act all night. |

There are loads of funny women...But the openings have only just begun to change...and men still make more for mediocre comedy films than woment do [regardless of how good they are]...
Josie Long, Bridget Christie, Sara Pascoe, Maeve Higgins, and Tina Fey, are just a few who I think are really talented and trying to move things forward...
But it is a shame that we are listing 'funny women' rather than 'people we like who are funny'...The idea itself shows we still have a long way to go. |

Dan - the point you make..... is it bias as there are thoughts women should be more ladylike .... Is that buried in there ?
I think there are more "bad" male comedians out there than women comedians in total .....
Can you relate to what female comedians say ???? Is it the content - the material as well ???
It's been hard for women to break into comedy - I think for sone people - women are not supposed to be funny ..... Maybe men are naturally funny as they do silly things more often and we get to laugh X

There's no hidden agenda SSSassy, nothing deep about the content, just based on what I've heard and seen on both tv and radio. Just whether I laugh or not.
For the record there's LOADS of male comedians I don't find funny too .. But the handful of comedians I do like tend to be male.
There was a series of programmes on radio 4 recently from upcoming 'sketch groups' mainly men and I didn't find any of them remotely funny either. And they also did the best of the Edinburgh fringe - again a mix of men and women - and I didn't find any of them funny too.
So it's not limited to just female comedians, I only posed it as a question as I knew it would start a good debate with diverse _iews! ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Point is they're funny to SOMEONE or they wouldn't be comedians in the first place. Saying "I rarely find female comedians funny" would be a controversial expression of opinion yes. However, saying "Female comedians are rarely funny" is essentially a contradiction in terms, and therefore fucking stupid as previously indicated. Not to mention a bit trollish and contrarian.

In addition to this list:
Pesha Lilly
Sally-Anne Hayward
Stephanie Lang
Theresa Farlow (on a good day)
Jeanette Bird-Bradley in about three or four more years
Adele Cliff - excellent one liner expert
Athena Kublenu
Pippa Evans - she's excellent and has some great songs
Rivka Uttley - brilliant and should become a big name if there is any justice
Lindsey Carrol - bit alternative, but still skilled
Bethany Black on a good day
Dotty Winters
Laura Lexx
Erika Benning
Harriet Dyer
Lucy Thompson
Jo D'Arcy
Robyn Perkins - an American who is over here and doesn't make being American the be all and end all of her act
Jo Duncan
I've seen all of these and they are all decent. Some will make it, some won't but all can make a room laugh. |
