From what I see in your pics, this may be your first Tattoo
Don't do it
Far too many have tattoo's now and its actually more cool to have a body free of tattoo's, branding or piercings
I got mine over 30 years back and although I don't despise them, I am okay with them but if I had choice again I would go without, due to the huge amounts of people getting tattoo's now

I would say unless your in the armed forces or have been, I wouldn't get one to do with the military as a lot of people will see it as fake. I always suggest with tattoos that If people want one done make sure it's something personal to them and be happy having foe the rest of their lives. |

I have 2 and getting a 3rd soon. All personal and nothing to do with how many other people have or how many people have them. It's a concept I don't personally understand, not doing something because others are too. |

In the nicest way possible military tattoos are usually used to show something that you've experienced. |

If it were me, I'd be too scared of the inevitable awkwardness when someone asked you "so where did you serve?" Or something like that.

It would be completely dependent on what it was. Getting an insignia of a certain regiment etc certainly indicates you served, so many people have them whilst pretending, look up The Walter Mitty Fanclub on faceache to prove just that.
As someone has suggested a poppy signifies support but detailed military tattoos indicate serving. |

I watched tattoo fixers recently where guy had a tattoo tribute to his Grandad to cover up another tattoo. They did a couple of Warplanes overland with some crosses over graves. It looked stunning as most of their work does. |

These silly tattoo programs make people think they have to have a sob storry or deep meaningful reason to get a tattoo.
It is ok to just say bollocks to all that and just get a design you want just because you like it |

I really really really don't like needles. I don't think I could get a piercing and I've had to endure countless blood tests lately that I hate having done.
And I've got the odd tattoo here and there. |

with tattoos it's a very dangerous territory if you don't know what you're after, but the first thing you should be looking at, before you even think of your design if you're that lost on something to get is study the tattoo artist, there's a lot of shoddy people knocking around. You want someone who can perform beyond your expectations, have a look at their line work.
My advice, look at the work of "Nikko Hurtado" he's the lucky sod who tattooed Cheryl cole's arse and compare that work to the artists in your area.
If they don't meet that level, look elsewhere. but to me your tattoo sounds more spontaneous than anything, I wouldn't get one for a couple of months and then just see if you feel the same way.
Speak to your tattoo artist and they can give you ideas.
Also, don't go for the cheaper alternative. |

You say youd like something military, and that your grandad fought....
Why not an action battlefield scene with grandads face faded into the background...or foreground..
Best idea is go to a DECENT tattooist who is prepared to sit, take time, draw up some ideas...hope you show it when you decide what you are doing..x |

I'd only get black & grey tattoos and have a roulette wheel, the black numbers are block shaded and I found it ridiculously irritating!
