Oooh, jumping on this band wagon (although was saving it for Thursday). Myself and two fantabulous fab forum fems were having a quick pre-party snackeroo at a convenient yet culinarily uninspiring well know fast food poultry based emporium at the weekend. Adjacent to us were three young ladies who were clearly university students (based on conversation about lectures, assignments and the student union bar before I am accused of judging). They had literally dropped food and packaging paraphernalia on the floor, all over their table etc making it look like a chimpanzee tea party had got a tad out of hand and a ketchup and mayo bomb had gone off. When they got up to leave, did they gather up their carnage and place it in the bin located conveniently besides the exit? No, the ignorant little buggers walked off and left it for someone else to clear up. Grrrrrrrrrr (fully aware that this confirms that I am old!). |

Yes, rudeness is the one thing that sends me ballistic. I hate bad manners and rudeness. When I was in my job I challenged the big chief of the organisation after he demonstrated rudeness. It just gets me really angry. |

Headphones generally make people less aware of their surroundings. The ones that get my goat are the ones that decide to commandeer a whole space for their coffee shop office and sit there for 3 hours with their small flat white |

^ This.
Ancient Egyptian texts speak of 'the youth of today not listening to their elders and betters'
While Roman ones talk of 'young men, only interested in wine, women and fast horses.'
You're just getting old.

The ones that wind me up are the men (and it is invariably middle aged men),who monopolise multiple seats on crowded commuter trains when other people are standing.
I was on the train recently guy sat in the middle seat of 3, coat next to him on one side, briefcase on the other and plenty of people standing. He wasn't happy that I asked him to move his coat and then he moaned I was sitting to close to him while he tried to defend his space! |

"Some people are in their own little bubble and don't think or care what anyone else thinks as long as it doesn't interfere their life"
At times we could all probably be guilty of being in our own little bubble.
I'm often focused on where I'm going or what I'm doing. Its not that I don't care about others. I'm just not always 100% aware of them.
Don't think I've explained that very well, but I know what I mean. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I agree, the sense of respecting others before speaking is less important than being as verbally aggressive as they can - all as a right to speak as they find.
Enormous changes have happened in just a few years with our behaviour. It's quite sickening.
Most of us could be cutting, insensitive and downright offensive to others but hold respect as high amongst our moral priorities.
Whilst walking I keep hot drinks further from me, as some are very happy to push them over you, like the person pushing at Euston station yesterday. It just missed my clothing but they didn't my remark, although well mannered.
In all of history we've probably been savages, yet had to have respect for those in our tribes, or else. |

Oddly and paradoxically, while we have increasing bad manners, road rage and generic rudeness; we still are the most polite people in the world when it comes to driving!
We let other drivers pull in, we give way, we flash hgv's when they've passed and it's safe to pull in and then we all say thank you!
My French friend thought this hilarious but it does show that politeness is still the norm. |

This is true. The politeness while driving is very British and I definitely noticed it as soon as I moved here. All the waiting and waving. It seems so civil. But it's more of a surface civility, I think.

No. I genuinely believe that it is because most people in the UK like to be polite.
We've driven in many other countries and we've never experienced such nice manners like the British driver.

No, I'm not saying they don't like to be polite. I agree, they do. But the sheen of civility that accompanies that politeness is, in my opinion, false. Basic driving infractions are as common here as anywhere I've driven, but a wave makes it all ok because its the polite thing to do...That's been my experience anyway.

It's the EU's fault this will never happen if we come out of the EU.
In all seriousness I hate rude people, and this has started to become noticeable more and more and it's not limited to one age group or demographic. ie yesterday a young lady pushing past people trying to get off the train but a few weeks before it was a guy (I'd say mid 40's).
Manners cost nothing. |

I have lived in many countries world wide, on most continents; returning to UK every so often for a year or two at a time;
Over 40 years, I have no doubt that British behaviour and politeness has dwindled markedly ; and is worse nowadays than mist places I have been.
Where I live now, everyone, from elderly to the " yoof" are polite and respectful of each other .
I find British driving ( though not the worst I have seen aggressive and very impolite nowadays; it has deteriorated to am alarming degree in the last 10 years; and as a motorcycle rider; in UK have been deliberately driven at, swerved at, blocked, deliberately knocked off the bike twice while waiting at a junction or lights, spat at, had cans thrown at me from cars, and sworn at.
Where I am now, drivers make way for me, pull in to let me pass, give way to me. All with a freindly wave.
In Europe, Brits are almost universally _iewed as rude, aggressive, ill mannered , and often d*unk.
As my French freinds say; " we can't understand it; we always thought all English were gentlemen; they always used to be: what happened?"

I was in a coffee shop on s 2 seater table and some bloke just helped himself to the other chair, without asking if I was using it! Which I was! yes on the tubes and trains guys don't offer their seats like they used to ,I always do if I see a family get on and me moving allows them to sit together ,I got up for a pregnant woman yesterday ![](/icons/s/confused.gif)
Is it patronising to hold the door open for a woman or gentlemanly,we were discussing this at work the other day
I always hold the door open for people, I remember doing it in Ney York for a family member at a department, Before he could walk through about 4/5 people barged through, Not one of them thanking me or even making eye contact,
Maybe they thought it was my job "
I think manners are brought on by good family values, but since technology has taken over ie: internet, video games.we hardly see our kids anymore they spend most of the time in their rooms, families dont really sit down for meals together anymore and chat about things, thats just my take on things |

Unfortunately these rudeness seems to becoming fashionable.
Unfortunately it seems too nany confuse it with being assertive or being honest And straight to the point.
See the examples set on TV programmes, The Apprentice, X Factor and ppl like Gordon Ramsey and Marco Pierre White swearing n ranting and raving at contestants. |

I'm not sure if people are becoming more rude in general but with the worlds problems and people struggling more with day to day things (financially) then that is probably leading to more stress so more rudeness (maybe..) |

I have noticed that people have got kinder, more polite, and more thoughtful over the past five years or more.
However I have radically changed my friendship group and the people I choose to surround myself with in that time - so that might have a large impact. |

So agree with you.
I work in Education with 16-18 year olds. Manners are lacking, and social skills are at an all time low amongst them. IMO

What are you going to rant about on Thursday now? Hope you haven't peaked too soon......
It's a risk Markoh, but I feel both relieved for letting it out and a tiny bit rebellious because it's not Thursday
Rant about it again on Thursday. It drives me mad when people leave their rubbish all over!
Ignorant eejits. "
I saw a saxo full of chavs eating there Mickie dee's, parked next to a bin, chucking their shite all over the car park.
Ignorant spotty faced oiks.
This could easily run till Thursday. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

People are definitely becoming ruder.
Firstly - look where you're fucking going when you're walking down the street instead of having your eyeballs stuck to your phone.
Secondly - if you work in a shop. I'm the fucking customer so please don't push in front of me when I'm trying to look at your products. And by the way I'm not in your bloody way, you can wait 'til I'm gone.
Thirdly - Look at me and smile, maybe even say hello when despite your shitty service I still decide to buy something.
Fourthly - when I let you out of a junction or wait for you to pass on a narrow road, the correct response is a friendly wave (twat).
Besides this I like lots of people. |
