This is weird but my cat and I are giving each other electric shocks on an alarmingly regular basis. It happened when I first got her then stopped but now it's started again.
I googled a bit and it seems it's something to do with the air. Has anyone else experienced this? She keeps looking at me when it happens like 'wtf did you just do?' |

"You can get a box that you plug in..looks like it is doing nothing but takes all the nasty ions out of the air which can cause static "
Would one happen to know what said box is?!
There's chat about a humidifier... |

Ambient humidity. That and the triboelectric effect.
Fur is quite positive in the series, but so is human skin. I imagine you're both building up opposite charges when you walk around or move in clothing (you not the cat. Unless you dress it. You don't dress your cat do you?).
It'll be much less apparent in the summer.

I get them when out and about opening doors and touching railings.
I babysat for a family that had a domesticated pot bellied pig. Whenever I went to pet it sparks would fly between my hand and its skin. Weird. |

It's got to do with dry atmosphere. I used to get visible sparks at work at times, if I touched the desk. Painful. A bucket with water under the desk stopped all that.
At home, you can hang special ceramic containers filled with water from the radiators. It really helps.

Yeah I've actually seen sparks too. It's weird! I like the sound of hanging water from the radiators though. |
