It's 4:00 am,going to head over to the 24 hour cafe, get a breakfast for me and 2 sausage butties for the dogs.

Then we have decided to head over to Whitby for a morning by the sea. After that we are going for a blast around the North York moors while heading back home. The water dish and two bottles of water are ready, they are both looking excited now...come on my babies, let's rock n roll around Yorkshire...have a fabulous Sunday everyone.....don't be too naughty

Hope this is a joke, feeding bread to a dog is very bad for them, sausages ok though. Nice thought though.

Worth noting that the reaction dogs have to chocolate can be sudden and not related to the amount they have consumed before. They could have eaten whole bars for years, and then half a button might kill them.

Didn't know about bread though, even though my family used to breed labradors. Wouldn't give dogs sausage butties though, it's just not good for their health generally. All that fat and oil and stuff.

From a quick lookup - homemade bread with no additions is generally fine. It's generally the chemically white bread that isn't fine, and breads with things like fruit in them.

Guess it depends if you want to care for your pets the best you can, and give them the most appropriate diet. As said, chocolate can easily kill a dog, bread is not good for them. If you think you know better then fine. Would you say the same if someone tried to feed child bleach... Saying get over it it was only the once??

I don't think the 'chocolate' statement you have made is correct. The toxic levels of chocolate on dogs is dependant on the amount they have eaten and their weight. Apparently dogs process the chemicals much more slowly than humans. it is unlikely a Dogue de Bordeaux would be poisoned,by a cadburys button.

Iv given my dogs bits of crust of bread, Iv never seen or heard until today about bread being bad, it doesn't even say about it at the vets.

I also think there has been dramatics on this thread. The guy was only posting that he was going to have a nice day walking the dogs after a bit if breakfast. He made no reference to force feeding his dogs whole loaves of bread and pouring gallons of chocolate down their throats.

Whilst we all know that lots of foods are poisonous for dogs, and it's not good practice that they are fed a lot of this diet regularly, bits of food won't have any diverse effect on them.

People answered this thread in this vein because they wanted to argue a point not because they are really concerned about the health of this guy's dogs.

That's not what we were always told by the vets. We were always told that it was *not* cumulative, and it could be a sudden reaction.

To be safe, doggy chocolates only are the way forward - although my lot have never liked those pallid looking things anyway.

I remember years ago when I was a kid we had a German Shepard and we used to feed her everything, cake, chocolate, sweets you name it if I had it she got some, I shared everything with her

These were the days before you were told what to feed your dogs and left overs were commonly given to dogs

She was 13 when she died

Now days if you feed your dog a chocolate for a grape it will die

I'm just back from walking mine on the Leeds/Liverpool canal for a couple of hours - first decent dry and mud-free walk for ages.

A guy writes a nice message of a day out with his loved dogs and he is Grammatically stripped by the ever so correct Pirahna police of Fab.

Not everything we do as people can be so correct at all times.

Our old Lab was the same. If it wasn't nailed down he would get it. He was a master of food theft. Just when you thought there was no way for him to get at something, he would get it. He ate a 18 piece chocolate gateau. He could break in to tins of sweets, eat the lot including the wrappers. Many a time we were picking up sparkly poo.

He never stopped. Even when he was old and slow, he never lost the ability to swipe food off your plate. He was stealth personified.

He died one week off of his 15th birthday

Ok - my personal opinion .....

Q... Do people in remote villages that feed the dogs anything ... Think it's going to kill their dog ..... ????

Including the dogs that hunt Rats!

Growing up - our dogs lived 13 - 15 years - eating just about anything or scraps (not chocolate as that was never a scrap lol) ....

Dried and wet dog food specially produced, additives and manufactured just doesn't seem as healthy as chicken and veg that my grandmother fed her dogs or my mom her dogs .... Or me and mine ...

Health and safety seems to have removed common sense at times .....England's oldest dog eats fish fingers ..... Life is to ge enjoyed !

Well we are back..guess what...my dogs are still ALIVE..yes folks they survived eating 2 sausages each. They didn't have the bread,I don't eat white bread,so they don't.

As it's been so quickly pointed out that white bread is bad for dogs,as is milk, onions, fruit like grapes, cheese, and so and so on.Just to reassure people,my dogs are given a top quality dried food as well as chicken, lamb and beef, and not from a can.For treats they get a carrot after our walks.

We have had a great day out today, they both loved the beaches we have been on today. The North York moors are always stunning what ever the time of year.Stopped off in Pickering for a coffee (not the dogs because we know it's bad for them). We ended up in the Dales after Pickering, yet another walk, now we are home chilling out.

Hope you've all had a good Sunday so far...because we have..and we are still alive. X

It's funny years ago we never really cared about what we give the dog as a treatment, now I cringe when I realise what we did.

I was a teenager at the time, the dog was a border collie that ended up being put down at a ripe old age of 19.

She used to get chocolate, bread, alcohol (only when we were cleaning up a spill and didn't get to stop her in time) amongst other things.

Chocolate,bread,alcohol...you will be getting a telling off.(says with tongue in cheek)

What a cracking age (19) for a dog.

The thing with chocolate and dogs is that theobromide poisoning is cumulative - meaning that each time a dog eats chocolate that theobromide is in the system permenantly and builds up with every bit of chocolate eaten. The amount needed to actually harm an individual dog varies greatly (it is influenced by the weight of the dog and cocoa content of the chocolate, but is not dependent on that alone). So just because your dog has eaten chocolate in the past and been fine, or because you know a dog that has eaten chocolate regularly and had no ill effects doesn't mean your dog will never become ill from chocolate. They may just not have reached toxic levels yet. My dog nearly died from eating one small bar of 50% chocolate, and she's a staffie so not that small. My point is, please don't risk it!

Her xx
