"If there are adverse weather conditions people ski down the rivers to get to work/school ...the country doesn't grind to a halt !"
I did hear that to drive in winter you have to do a skid pan course. |

"What do we know about Norway? I may be working there later this year. Any pointers? other than "don't buy booze"."
The local booze is fairly cheap and the further North you go the cheaper it is. Tourist places like Stavanger will be mega expensive. |

Rather depends where you are. I was in Tromso last Winter. -25c and a 20 knot wind off the sea. Very cold. Rime ice from moisture in the air. |

Not true in North anyway. Needed to fit snow tyres though. (You'd be stupid not to!) |

I liked it but I've only visited 3 times for a maximum of 2 nights a visit. Food was good, it's a lot calmer than London and business isn't as "hard" as here. When I last went, the UN announced they were doing too little to fight racism/far right extremism but I didn't really notice it (although I'm white).
I'd like to visit Svalbard, those archipelagos all look beautiful. |

Hope you like herring and cheerful people.
Met some Norwegian ladies in Puerto Banus. They were off the chain when it came to letting their hair down and having fun.
Would love to have a little cruise up and down the fjords. |

Svalbard is fantastic for arctic travel. If you're a ski mountaineer look at the Lyngen Alps near Tromso. |

"Depends where you are.
Most local petrol stations/stores will have a black trade going on.
You'll soon find out who" Liar!
Unless you of course are referring to something you personally experienced in the 50s or 60s, or WW2 even. |

WTF are you on about?
Alcohol is heavily taxed there and it's only supposed to be sold through the government shops.
Hence there's a thriving trade in untaxed stuff.
I wouldn't comment if I didn't have personal experience of being there and working there. |

I seem to remember asking why so many Norwegians drove large gas guzzling cars and being told that because the driving distance between many Norwegian towns was relatively short there was little or no incentive to own a small economical vehicle..
I don't know if it's true..... |
