Why do so many car sales people tell lies? (Not all I might add)

I'm in the process of buying a new car and I've been quite excited. i was always going to buy the car but the salesman has told me my car would get free servicing if it wasn't registered by end of the month..this contradicts their webpage

I'm buying the vehicle but it just rips my knitting that they think that it's acceptable.

I think every sales person has their own spin or perspective, I regularly deal with the same estate agents too and they crack me up with their talk

Car sales people are better these days in my experience, of course some will still give you a stupid incentive or obviously be talking garbage whilst trying to hit targets

All car dealers are rubish when you get there you have a car to swop, they tell you that they are doing you a favour by talking it as they think it would not sell ,and they come up with loads of reasons why and give you a rubish amount of money for it,and when you have left with your new car,the next person that comes in and seeing your car washed and polished he says what a great car this is the best car on the lot,the lying bastards

They do it because 99% of people put up with it and he's got what he wanted.

If I ask for someone's best price and they give me it but I then negotiate lower I walk away and tell him he's already lied.

But I like the challenge and happy to walk away but most people don't

I get they have a reputation and I'm not naive in fact I negotiated a very good price for the new car.. Maybe it was revenge lol

The banks got fined for their lies, maybe car sales should too

Simples! Tell them what you want or take your money elsewhere, make them bend over backwards for you.

don't be hurried. . you're the one with the money, it's your market. If they pressure, walk away.

I had it on my first astra. ." loads of interest, someone coming to see it later, won't be here long" etc. told him to start it up and bugger off or I'd walk... then gave it a full check of fluids, transmission shift points and fluids, underbody check, OBD check for stored faults etc.

Then I agreed to buy it cash, IF he'd give it 12 months MOT, and change the autobox fluid. Good fun.

Did the same with my last astra too... Full service, MOT, valet and delivery to work, £200 off the asking price due to an airbag warning lamp. Common fault, 5 minute fix.

I do enjoy car shopping. ..

It's when they tell you it's a limited offer and you have to decide now as they cannot hold it past that day LoL same with insurance quote in the phone, just the hard sell

Get it in writing before you sign for the car.

Also, don't let them wash the car before you pick it up and NEVER buy the 'special' coatings they offer. They charge you £250 for something they pay £30 for and never apply properly. Pay a detailer to sort the car after you've purchased it.

It's a brand new car so I'm hoping it's clean. I sent an email noting my concerns but he hang responded.

Can they cancel my order?

Get everything in writing. They can't argue if it's in black n white. Verbal agreements are one thing, written ones are something else

I detailed a 3 week old car last year with the worst paint I've ever seen. The dealer used Traffic Film Remover (TFR) to clean the car and it damaged the clear coat and required an expensive and extensive paint correction. Most dealers, forecourt hand washes and franchised valeters use the same stuff and its horrific when used incorrectly.

Why do you think he's lying because it isn't on their webpage? It could be an extra dealer incentive only offered once you are in the dealership

If you have signed an order form it's very difficult to get out of it unless you can prove it's not what you ordered. I was in sales selling construction plant for some years. Hated it, some of my colleagues and competition would tell complete lies. Anything for a sale. It comes down to lack of product knowledge really. They don't want to say in front of the buyer that they don't know so they will make it up. Also never buy of a sales person if they rubbish you alternative choices. Piss poor sale techniques.

He is lying because the terms of the deal are explained on the webpage and are not what he said told me.
