Do you take them?

Started on Glucosamine and ZMA (weird dreams)

I take a multivitamin because I'm on a diet and what I'm eating isn't balanced.

I take a very strong vitamin D supplement for S.A.D.

I'm also taking CLA and green tea extract, but only because they are an added ingredient in the protein powder I'm using.

I would take omega 3 oil, calcium and glucosamine but there's a limit to how many tablets I can take. I practically rattle when I walk as it is.

ive always had vivid and strange dreams so not really noticed a change. To be honest I just take what I'm told to take when I'm told to take it

The occasional b-vitamin supplement. As b vits are water soluble and they can't be stored like fat soluble vits (vitamin A,D & E).

B vits can be tricky though. There's a particular one ( B6?) That can cause flushing and a racing pulse if taken in excess.

Flaxseed oil occasionally.

The supplements i take are taken on advice from my consultant so i tend to listen to what he sugests as i think he's a guy who knows what he's on about

But the majority of people who take vitamins have no need to whatsoever; have enough vitamins to be healthy;

And are totally wasting their money as the body simply excretes all the excess vitamins, so all they do is pay money to conmen for stuff that goes in one end of the body and straight out without doing anything .

I have slim fast it really helps me .. Its not for slimming I have it for the vitamins and I feel better when I drink one glass a day .

Both have had proper double blind medical trials and found be effective for joint/arthritis issues. Both paramedics and consultant told me to take Glucosamine saying everyone should.

This depends on the type of vitamins. Excess water-soluble vits like B and C are excreted, however, excess fat-soluble vits like A, D, E and K are usually stored in the liver and fat tissues. There are also health risks to take notice of when taking excess vitamins. A may result in liver toxicity, B-6 may cause nerve damage, C is linked to kidney stones and increased iron absorption, D may cause calcium deposits and an irregular heart rhythm.

The D3/arrhythmia link is actually not proven, check out the Vit D Council.

Vit K is synthesised in the liver, not stored in it and if you're thinking about that large Swedish study that correlates C and kidney stones, that was a very flawed study, easily picked apart.

I take vitamin D, as most people here are deficient in the winter as there's insufficient sunlight intensity. Melatonin sometimes. BCAA.

Overall I aim to get most of what I need from my diet.

B12 jabs every three months for the rest of my life, much to my surprise (they bloody hurt),

5-1000iu D3 every day, depending on sun exposure, magnesium and folate.

The D3 has made a massive difference in my health; I don't get colds, my energy and mental health are spot on. My children and grandchildren all supplement with D3.

They have only been found to be effectise in some trials. Other trials ahowed they did nothing at all.

They did nothing for me after taking them for over a year and scans showed my cartlidge had got much much worse. My consultant said its worth trying them but they dont work for everyone.

Accrete D3 (vitamin D) is advisable for all nightshift workers and people living in Scotland, this is due to lack of sun light lack of Calcium & vitamin D can cause osteoporosis which is an "invisible disease" which you will not know you have until you are much older

It's adviseable for almost everyone. Thankfully, GP's are finally getting the message and testing for deficiency now. Only a few years back it was deemed to be rare and a fad.

Accrete D3 is cholecalciferol and calcium combined, most don't need the calcium element and it's not suitable for children.

Unless you are naked for most of the day and outdoors in sunny weather in this country, you will never get enough sun exposure for Vit D production. You can't get it via food very successfully either and if you not eat saturated fat and also take statins or have a low cholesterol level due to a low fat high carb diet, you will most definitely be deficient.

B12 is an entirely different thing.

Green leafys are great as most of it is insoluable fibre which helps the gut bacteria. But you need quite a lot.

Don't think we were linking the two together. I'm just surprised being of a slightly Goth nature that I haven't been told to get more sun. Also, what are statins. I need to be on a low cholesterol diet but I'm already missing a lot of food I had to cut out of my diet last year. I'm really craving a bi greasy take-away burger

I've started taking a good multivitamin to suplement my diet as sometimes I don't always have the money to get fresh fruit and veg daily. I've also been havin an actimel once a day for the past fortnight as I've been on antibotics x

You need to do a whole load of research to get the info you need but just so you know, cholesterol is made by the body and the only dietary thing that really raises the bad part are carbohydrates, not saturated fat.

You could have a level of 3 but if it's mostly triglycerides, it's bad.

I also take a good bacteria tablet. This was also recommended by my consultant. It helps as i have to take at least one lot of antibiotics every day and sometimes a top up antibiotic too.

The good bacteria tablet helps reduce the problems that can be caused by taking antibiotics every day. They also help with my kidney problems. I keep a diary of how i am health wise and what i have taken so i can tell what works for me and what doesnt work.

Intraworkout bcaa's

Protein shakes as a supplement.

Vit C when feeling under the weather and to prevent cortisol build up and high dose to shed sub q water.

Lots of beef, chicken, fish and fibrous carbs.

And finally. Post work out "Haribo" to replace glycogen stores and stave off catabolism.

We won't get vitamin D from the sunlight in the UK winter sun that's sufficient for our needs. And food sources are unlikely to give you it either, due to volumes you'd need to eat.

"Cod liver oil plus have to get B12 injections. Tried black elderberry extract last year to boost my immune but as soon in ran out i got ill.

I used to have B12 injections and I'm told by my GP to get sun everyday I can

Haven't been told that by my Dr's, yet. Bloody hard to in an almost windowless office.

Unless you are naked for most of the day and outdoors in sunny weather in this country, you will never get enough sun exposure for Vit D production. You can't get it via food very successfully either and if you not eat saturated fat and also take statins or have a low cholesterol level due to a low fat high carb diet, you will most definitely be deficient.

B12 is an entirely different thing.

Don't think we were linking the two together. I'm just surprised being of a slightly Goth nature that I haven't been told to get more sun. Also, what are statins. I need to be on a low cholesterol diet but I'm already missing a lot of food I had to cut out of my diet last year. I'm really craving a bi greasy take-away burger

You need to do a whole load of research to get the info you need but just so you know, cholesterol is made by the body and the only dietary thing that really raises the bad part are carbohydrates, not saturated fat.

You could have a level of 3 but if it's mostly triglycerides, it's bad.

Still waiting on tests and results to find the cause of cholesterol and cardiomyopathy. Was told a few weeks ago I'd had a mild heart attack. Now they're saying they don't think it's that. I'm rattling around on pills at the moment that feel like they're doing me less good than they're supposed to.

I bet they have you on statins then. I urge you to do some reading around the use of statins, including the insert written by the manufactures that you'll get with the drugs.

There is a really good book about statins and their use. I cant remember the author at the moment and im not at home so cant check but il try to remember to add it here later on
