"What does it mean when there is no "last seen on (date) at (time)" entry below someone's username on the chat window?"
In privacy settings you can hide this information from showing to others. |

"means they have hidden it as they don't want you to see when there online. mainly a big cheat type thing x"
How is it a big cheat thing? It's just another privacy option, if people are looking at that kind of stuff a lot then they're the insecure ones |

I'm always a bit dubious (or I was) when blokes didn't have a last seen in their whatsapp, I learnt to ignore them in the end, maybe I was picky but I liked to know there wasn't anything to hide, obviously the blokes I was just intending to shag I wasn't really bothered about as I knew they was shagging other women but the ones that looked like potential for more than a shag I kicked to the curb!

"Bloody hell, people really will read nefarious reasons into everything. "
Actually the reason I am asking probably is nefarious
I didn't know the feature existed but it makes sense to me. Some people are a bit stalkery and clingy. |

"I have learnt something new today
Me too.
I have never taken any notice of when anyones online,I didn't know people did "
Me neither. I just noticed the screen didn't look "normal" and compared with another friend and noticed that was the difference.
I rarely use whatsapp. I only chat to two or three people that way. I don't know much about the app. |

I now have visions of people sat there staring at their whatsapp mumbling "they're online.....why won't they reply??!!!" whilst rocking backwards and forwards |

You can turn read receipts off too. With whatsapp, when you send a message, as you probably know, you get one tick for 'sent', 2 ticks for 'delivered' and if the other person has 'read receipts' on, the ticks will turn blue when they have read your message and you can swipe the message to see what time it was read. If they have it turned off, they'll stay grey |

Too much game playing
I use it all the time and don't even know this
Why would you want to hide that you've read a message from a friend? |

I don't know. But a few close friends of mine don't have theirs on. Sometimes it's not about 'hiding' stuff. It's just a preferance. I had read receipts on for Whatsapp, but I've never had them on for iMessages on my iPhone |
