After 7 months recuperation from industrial injury (yep I know I work for the NHS, go figure!)
I returned to work today, only to be treated like a leper! The department has been changed so much whilst I have been off, my line manager told me my role had been 'appraised and devolved' There way of saying my workload has been spread around the other men in the department. Redundant without being made redundant!
I have now to undertake a six month retraining period to gain extra skills and at the end of it I may or may not have a job!
C'est la Guerre. |

Turn it into a positive. There are way worse things that could happen than them turning your job on its head and giving you a whole new one. You're looking at it the wrong way. Embrace it... you never know, it might be better than your old job and you can thank your lucky stars that in this climate, you've got a job! |

hard and difficult times ahead for a lot of us im afraid.
i would take the positive from it. the fact that you have been afforded the 6 months retraining is an opportunity for you
my partner for the 2nd year running is facing being paid off from the council due to efficiency savings and cut backs....no 6 months retraining is on offer!!
so the morally of the story is there is always someone worse off than yourself
good luck |

Guess you could be correct, 24 years in the same post, retraining as a medicines dispenser is better than no job at all. Just hate to think I am being cooped up inside, working shoulder to shoulder with a roomful of women.
Thats not meant to be sexist, its just the way the pharmacy is configured. Guys work in supply and distribution, gals work in dispensary. |

i suppose you could always resign and allow someone else the opportunity of what is i would guess a reasonably well paid job.............and the added bonus of working in a room full of women |

I moved to Cornwall in 1995 with my job, 3yrs later I was made redundant.
I've been made redundant another 3 times since then. Just a month or so ago, at Christmas my current employer closed our workshop and I was expecting to walk again.
They are keeping me on as a rep. I don't like the job, but I've got to earn a living.
Life's tough sometimes |

Same here!
Let's hope you cut the mustard with the girlies as it would be embarrassing if "women's work" proved too much for you! |

To be honest, I feel your pain. I'm in a room full of women and I'd rather be sat in a cupboard somewhere instead. I'd get way more done without hearing about the ins and outs of corrie/emmerdale/eastenders etc. and then we have the children/husbands/family chat that whilst it's the done thing to do the small talk with people you work with, it's really not my bag. Then we have the constant singing along to the radio... even the adverts warrant a tune from one of them and quite frankly, I have days when I'd like to throw the radio out of the window, closely followed by the tuneless wonder.
However, I manage to contain my thoughts and potter along each day, quietly surfing the net and watching TV while I work and try my best to shut them out.
So there you have it... not everyone has the perfect job. You never know... maybe you'll love this one and be good at it. Try not to dwell on the cons before you've discovered the pros. |

I am sorry you are having a hard time, change is sometimes hard to adjust to.
But just a little something to brighten your day........
So I started a new job-to supplement my income (times are tough)-as an early morning cleaner for a company so commercial, rather than domestic.
On arrival, the code they had given me for the doors wouldn't work- great!
Found someone who told me how to use the correct code, then went to the keysafe which contained the keys for the cleaning cupboard, only to find it locked!!
Then cracked on with what materials I could find, and hoovered, and managed to fall down the stairs and twist my ankle!
And all before 8am!
So I suppose, I am saying, these things are sent to try us, and good luck! |

Apologies - should have namechecked the originator of the quote...

No, that's what we do in men's leisure time......
i have to do my own..."
So?
Were you expecting a medal maybe? Or possibly a round of applause?
Or maybe a patronising, "Well Done You", with a corresponding pat on the head |

Look on it as a new opportunity and look forward to the prospect of learning something different. I have seen quite a few threads with negativity about your current employers though and it is clear that you do not relish working for them. Maybe move on and try something completely different, if you have the finances and the opportunities open to you of course. If not, then make the best of what you have, theres a hell of a lot of worse jobs out there - or no job at all |

I think Jack has hit the nail on the head here. So many places are closing or shedding jobs. Most working for essentially the govt have in the past had pretty secure jobs but its not the case any more. I feel a little for everyone who gets pushed out or sideways but unfortunately its the way things are going at the moment. |
