I am genuinely sick, ManFlu, and I was really nervous about calling in today. Anyone else feel like they have to do "the sick voice" when they are genuinely ill?

With a few coughs thrown in

I have the opposite problem.. I have no job to ring in sick for right now, but have a proper sick voice going on due to tonsillitis, and have to make myself sound perky on the phone to recruitment agencies

I rang my boss this morning to say, I'm terribly sorry but I forgot I was going on holiday to Berlin TODAY.

I'll be out of action all week.

Got my dates wrong.

Oops.

Our office manager is a total prick when it comes to being sick. I've never taken a sickie unless I've been ill, I don't believe in doing that so I never have. I don't appreciate being treated like a skiver when I am poorly. That makes me properly cross.

I've always felt sorry for people who work on phones.

"Hi, *cough* I can't come in today I'm not well"

"Well... You managed to phone in"

How do you phone in sick if you have lost their voice?

Being congenitally late, as I am, a lecturer once asked me to explain to the class what my excuse was this time.

"I was caught in a freak yachting accident. Nasty."

*nods head*

I've had to do this, I also worked the rest of the week with no voice and had to get someone else to answer my phone for me
