It's certainly very slick.

For once the Beeb got the scheduling right as Deutschland 83 finished last week.

Okay.

Well... a lurker that's read the book. ( nice young man ) suggests that Sophie knew that Pine had connections with the embassy and therefore gave him the papers knowing they'd be forwarded and that the British would safeguard her.

Didn't come across like that to me in the t.v. version.

Anyway.. I sort of feel that if she knew Pine was connected to the embassy then so would Hamid and Porter.

I think Roper's wife knows full well too. I think she will turn out to be somekind of a mata hari figure and will have fucked with Roper's consent to gain the trust of Pine and to see if Pine would be loyal to Roper or Fuck her and then BOOM.... Off COURSE he did. He vetted him left right and centre which is why the shipment was shipped and not roaded and Birch was kept in the dark ...... Roper was 'mid' vetting and kept Birch close..... very close. Besides Roper has feline qualities. He is enjoying playing with Birch .... letting him run and reeling him in..... just wait for tonight. It was a great series. I think Mr Pine is getting a taste for international espionage and killing. Wonder where it will lead next?

I can't see them killing Roper though, until they get their $300m back!

London and France

Different ending from the book; where Pine's handler tells Roper's MI6 freinds that he can bring down Roper, but if Roper lets Pine and the girl go, he won't expose him;

Roper lets Pine and the girl go, finishes his arms deal, and continues unchecked;

Pine and the Girl dissapear into obscurity, Pine's handler is discredited and drops out of sight . The corrupt guys carry on.

So a better ending for the " good guys" in the TV version,

But sufficiently ambiguous for a sequel (which apparently John le Carré is writing at the moment.)

I prefer the ending in the book. It sits better with events throughout.

I thought the ending a little too simplistic - although I wasn't expecting Roper to be driven off by the Egyptian Mafia......

Did you see his cameo role in the penultimate episode. I didn't realise it was him.
