A guy is sitting in some foreign country in death row awaiting his execution the next day. The executioner decides to grant him one last favor; he'll give him a choice in the execution method. The prisoner is therefore allowed to make one last statement. If this statement is true, he'll be hanged the next day. If however his statement is false he will be beheaded the next day.

What should the prisoner say?

A man lives on the 20th floor in a block of flats. Every day he gets the lift down to the ground floor so he can get to work. On his way home he gets the lift to the 12th floor and then walks up the stairs. Unless it's raining. Why?

"What's the last thing that goes through a bug's mind when it hits the windscreen of your car?"

Its butt!

OK, I read this in a joke book when I first came to the country, and I could not, for the life of me, understand why a bug thinking about its butt in its last moments of life is so funny.

I just put it down to the fact that the word "butt" was funny? Lol

I also thought English people were weird for having ceiling wax. I mean, I get that you need to wax floors, but why ceilings too?

I was an odd child.

"A man lives on the 20th floor in a block of flats. Every day he gets the lift down to the ground floor so he can get to work. On his way home he gets the lift to the 12th floor and then walks up the stairs. Unless it's raining. Why?"

He is short and can only reach the button for floor 12....if its raining he'll have an umbrealla to press the button with for his floor

I'm often seen around a lot, referred to many ways,

See me black and you may find misfortune haunts your days.

Tell a thing, that should have been kept quiet, to all around,

Then look inside the sack, there I'm no longer to be found.

Nosiness, prying, snooping, leaves me fearing, full of dread,

For all these things are likely to see me soon lying dead.

These clues combined should start to give a picture, an idea,

Of who or what I am, so can you tell me? Is it clear?

OK, an ever so slightly mathy one (but very basic maths, and still mainly lateral thinking):

Four people, A, B, C, and D, are on one side of a bridge, and they all want to cross the bridge.

However, it's late at night, so you can't cross without a flashlight.

They only have one flashlight.

Also, the bridge is only strong enough to support the weight of two people at once.

The four people all walk at different speeds:

A takes 1 minute to cross the bridge

B takes 2 minutes

C takes 5 minutes

D takes 10 minutes

When two people cross together, sharing the flashlight, they walk at the slower person's rate.

How quickly can the four cross the bridge?

They only have one flashlight.

Also, the bridge is only strong enough to support the weight of two people at once.

The four people all walk at different speeds:

A takes 1 minute to cross the bridge

B takes 2 minutes

C takes 5 minutes

D takes 10 minutes

When two people cross together, sharing the flashlight, they walk at the slower person's rate.

How quickly can the four cross the bridge?

2+1+5+1+10= 19mins

Nope, there's an even quicker way.

Is it 13mins then?

How do you get 13 mins?

A+B walk over taking 2 mins

A walks back to give the torch back taking 1 min

C+D Walk over taking 10 mins

2+1+10 = 13

But A is still tge other side lol

But A has crossed the bridge....the question did not say they needed to all get to the other side....only cross the bridge"

Oh yeah lol

No, they all have to be on the other side, it's not one of those trick questions.

"OK, an ever so slightly mathy one (but very basic maths, and still mainly lateral thinking):

Four people, A, B, C, and D, are on one side of a bridge, and they all want to cross the bridge.

However, it's late at night, so you can't cross without a flashlight.

They only have one flashlight.

Also, the bridge is only strong enough to support the weight of two people at once.

The four people all walk at different speeds:

A takes 1 minute to cross the bridge

B takes 2 minutes

C takes 5 minutes

D takes 10 minutes

When two people cross together, sharing the flashlight, they walk at the slower person's rate.

How quickly can the four cross the bridge?

20 mins?

Nope, could be quicker. "

"You are taken to Venus;

They put you in a safe capsule,

And say;

Your choice; stay here a day, we will give you $1 million. If you choose to stay a year, we will give you $2 million. Either way, you will have sufficient food and water. We will make sure the temperature is a constant 70 degrees Fahrenheit."

What is the best deal? What do you choose to do?

A year, because Venus has a longer solar day than year. "

Yep you will have a $2million , and be home sooner....

In future, Id change the wording so that they all need to get to the otherside of the bridge or my 13 answer would be right and had the torch cant be thrown or stars 12mins would be right ha

Ah, that could be an improvement, but it's not a wording trick question, and I don't like giving a really long riddle.

I normally hash out those points during the discussion/ guessing stage. Easier in person, of course. :D
