Those of us who fall into the world of hi-tech should take note of the importance of correct grammar.
I have noticed that many who text messages & e-mail, have forgotten the "art" of capitalization.
Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

"True, but is it that important in a profile??"
It was a joke, but yes good grammar is always important.
Why should folk let standards drop just beacause they are sending an email or posting on here? |

Sadly, you're missing the point. Some have no standards to drop! What you see is pretty much it. |

When ive been at work all day, i come on here to relax and I just cant be bothered with ensuring there are appropriate capitals or that the grammar is 100% correct.
No excuse today of course, I havent been at work, but the same applies, im on my pc, just typing on a swinging forum, its not my dissertation or a project or report for work, therefore I cant be arsed.
Of course I would never write a report without punctuation or with incorrect grammar |

I'm too anal about that not to use proper grammar and punctuation. It makes me twitch when I see badly written profiles but if the person the profile belongs to is okay with that then who am I to comment? It's not the most important thing in the world to everyone, it's just important to me. |

I'm not fussed about grammar or spelling when its other people. I am strict with myself but not other people as I have a few friends who are dyslexic and I know how they struggle getting everything in the right order. |

I am beginning to fall into the category of not wanting to help people 'correct' their profiles, anymore, especially if they ask for help.
This is because it sorts the wheat from the chaff without having to speak to them lol |

I always make my best effort to use correct grammar and punctuation. Yes I do make mistakes but I always try my best not to.
I have fairly high standards in all that I do, be that my work, my appearance etc etc and I feel there is no need to let my standards slip just because I'm typing in a forum on a swinging site. Similarly if I do a job, no matter what it is, I do it to the highest standard that I am capable of achieving, that's just the way I am.
I feel those that have sloppy standards tend to have a sloppy lifestyle.
Sorry if that sounds as though I'm up my own arse, but I'm not, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist and I won't stop being like that for anyone. |

I'm a bugger for paying attention to detail with whatever I endeavour to do.
So with that in mind I'm not keen on bad grammar and spelling in profiles, it only takes a few seconds to run a spell check.
Also, if folk can't be bothered to try to create a good impression on their profiles, or in messages, it makes us wonder what other standards they let slip.
Surely, as a swinging site is a form of market place and we're all here trying to sell ourselves, creating a good impression is all part of it, be it through words or pictures.

very true hun on another site i use a guy had posted a question on a forum which was very hard to read and work out what was actually being asked i answered their question as best i could but yet lots of others just jumped on the bad spelling and poor grammer well the person who posted it pm'd me to say thankyou for answering his question and appologised for his poor spelling as he had dyslexia they had been on the site for years and his wife normally posted on the ofrums or dealt with any mail as he really struggled but he had decided to give it a go anyway but after the way everyone else had treated his post he felt it was best he left it to his wife in future
i can honestly say i shed a tear reading his pm the intolerance of others really does break my heart at times
i admit i do mentally correct others when i'm in chat as the wrong there or where of off or too etc etc does drive me batty but i like to think i am understanding enough to not judge that person for not having paid as much attention as i did in english lessons or maybe its laziness or just ignorance i do not care what it is i would prefer to get to know the person within not their writting skills
i have a husband who amazes me with his inteligence the stuff he knows just knocks my socks off and i have often said to him if only he had bothered at school he could be soooo incredibly qualified by now but its not his way he hated school hates paperwork and hates snobbery that goes with it all (my degrees better than your degree i am so well read and your not bollux)and anyone who actually knows him thinks he is the mutts nuts yet he is first to admit he does not give 2 hoots about spelling or grammer

wasnt being droll in the slightest , no commas or full stops inserted, therefore didnt know where one sentence stopped and another began , made reading difficult.

exactly my point its all snobbery
is punctuation really that important?
i'm sitting on my sofa with the lappy on the arm typing with one hand i really can't be arsed to try and bend my hand into odd shapes to use shift just so you and others don't judge me as an imbecile.

True, but is it that important in a profile??
I am actually put off by profiles with 'txt spk', poor grammar, incorrect use of capitals, poor spelling and poor/ incorrect use of punctuation.
I have no problems with any of the above in forums or msn. I do, however, object when it is used in an initial message to me, especially when it is apparent that it is as a result of laziness.
Just my opinion, I know... |

I'm particular about my own spelling and grammar, but I try not to pick holes in other people's, I too have dyslexic friends.
Most of the time I'd rather read what people have to say on the forums, not worry about how grammatically correct it is or how they spell it.
I've said before on the forums.
To hear what someone has to say you just have to listen harder.
Maybe, just maybe, you'll learn something. xxxx

Quotation .................do not correct others when they use improper grammar.
Differences in background, family life, and education cause people to speak differently, and people often use slang for effect.
More than this, it is irritating and degrading to be corrected by a 'classless' know-it-all. |

Young adults being killed in Afghanistan.
Starving people all over the world raking thro rubbish dumps to scrape together pennies to eat.
Knife crime and the pain it causes.
and people missing out a coma or an exclamation mark... and the evil who spell 'there' where 'their' is required.
this world at times makes me weep so.... |

I can never see the point of trying to put someone down in here for their spelling, punctuation or grammar,if I can work out whats been written then thats good enough for me
It makes me cringe when people don't answer a question and just pick a post apart for no other reason than?......well what is the reason anyway? I can't think of any good one

The author of a message may well use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling…. yet still manage to demonstrate the aptitude of a boiled cauliflower.
I am far more drawn to the content rather than studying the construction. I do however expect words (whichever way they are typed) to be in the correct order.

I can't believe you mean that just because nasty things happen in the world, we should all dumb down! Perhaps if we did that, all would be well in places of violence, no one would starve and knife crime would dissapear!
The post above with no capitalisation or punctuation of any kind was almost impossible to read, which means that persons _iew doesn’t get read by all and their _iew is lost!
As has been shown on this post, wrong punctuation can lead to totally different meanings for exactly the same words. That in turn can lead to misunderstandings that in itself could lead to violence!

Every single person can be hurt or offended if you pick up on their mistakes.
This is not a English Language Learning or testing site.
Different people have had different opportunities in life.
If you cannot understand because of grammar, spelling, caps, punctuation, word order or confused organisation why not just leave it and move on.
Unless you wish Fabs to introduce an English Language Testing Stystem as a barrier to membership of the site?

I am not inconsiderably discombobulated by your attitude toward those whose disposition to put the punctuation in the correct position may be less than the vision of those with the disposition to use foresight and vision in understanding the frission which can be avoided by using with precision the correct position and by making this decision with precision construct a sentence with the power of nuclear fission.
