Some people live on a different planet - £50 min spend
Jump to: Newest in thread
A mother put out a leaflet at the school gates for her child's 7th Birthday party telling them they must spend a min of £50 on her son's present. Some people live on a different planet. No wonder other parents are annoyed. |

I read that a bride sent an invoice to a guest that didn't turn up for the amount they'd spent on their food etc!
Sarah
Btw how would the parent prove what was spent ? Did they have to provide receipts ? |

I wouldn't be annoyed. I'd just decline the invite.
Same as I would any invite that tells me what I have to spend/buy. |

"That's one way to get your child beaten up I suppose"
I would still spend £50, but then buy the child something that would really annoy the parents. Like a drum kit, a set of cymbals, a pet snake, a single ticket to a Justin Bieber concert. |

If she didn't want people there, maybe she could consider not inviting them in the first place. |

My ex used to do that . She would spend absolutely loads on presents for the kids when they went to parties easily 50 to 100 each time and that's fucking ridiculous for a birthday present for your own kid let alone someone else's
It was embarrassing and she would ask at the school if it was ok and do you want the receipt to change it as it was expensive
Didn't make her any more popular either . |

"I've hosted childrens parties and only spent around £50 that included food games and party bags.
It's about the children having fun not gifts "

"Are you sure this actually happened or are people sharing it on Facebook?
I have my suspicions....."
Leigh On Sea reported in Southend newspaper with interview.
I would assume parents keep a close on eye on presents normally given |

I've read this on Southends news web site. The accompanying interview made me laugh, if it's true it's horrifying if it's not it's funny.
The story immediately under it is entitled "shock at swingers in Waitrose car park" |

I just read it. I know some papers make up filler stories when they have space to fill but this would be taking the biscuit if it is. |

The name of the woman and her husband had me suspicious though especially as the child is called Alfie |

When our kids were small it had started to get a bit out of hand with locations and party bags but most of us did the traditional party games and cakes thing. Presents were usually a couple of quid. |

Pretty standard my Sisters tell me some stories about one upmanship on the children's birthday "scene". Seems all the mummies like trying to out do each other with lavish parties these days.
I can remember being happy with just sitting in the playhouse in McDonald's. Now you get a zoo in your back garden minimum round here. |

I still remember a party I went to aged 6.I had my party dress on (nobody had more than one) but the high point was the cake, the boys mum had iced a clock face on it and the time said six o'clock. No party I went to afterwards ever matched that. |

"I'm not sure why people are annoyed, i would just decline their kind invitation. Nothing to get angry about."
i think it was her reasoning behind it....he is bored of the cheap tatt people usually buy her son for his birthday and feels that because she chooses to buy more expensive gifts for others everyone should act as she does.
i feel sorry for her son. she thinks she is teaching the other kids the value of money yet she is teaching her own son how to be materialistic and ungrateful for people who buy what they can afford. |

I don't even spend that much on my own children .... upshot is, they have grown up to work hard and value what they have, not to be materialistic (I know, almost impossible for a teen), proud of them for that .... |

So I understand. She obviously carries the entrepreneurial spirit through to her family life. |

Whilst we at it...
I am outraged to read that there is such a teacher shortage that classes in Essex are being taken by cats and there is a £5 surcharge for breastfeeding in some Essex restaurants...
Let alone dog walkers being able to use cycle lanes.... Whatever next... |

"We got invited to a wedding the couple had lived together for a good while they did not want presents they asked for cash for there honeymoon suggested £100 a couple"
I don't see a problem in requesting donations towards honeymoon vouchers, however, to suggest how much is just cheeky and rude |

Yep! I just read that. I thought the woman's name was odd.
Oh well, it caught me out good and proper. |
