Shikhar...
Re Altruism...I wouldn't necessarily say so, no. If anything I've become MORE selfish...in terms of my time and who I choose to spend it with, where I go. I find it hard to compromise now.
With regards to money however, I'm definitely more generous and don't feel I need to only pay for what's mine now. I like to see people happy and if that means I buy a bottle of wine for us all, then so be it! Little things like that really. Before I was a right Scrooge! |

"Are you off on a ramble any time soon? And do you need a travelling companion? x"
I prefer to travel alone!
But in terms of places I still want to visit:
Kraków
Transylvania
Ukraine
Mongolia
Iceland
If anyone would care to backpack with me, it would be a shortish break now due to work! X |

Alone time is sometimes the best. Inner reflection and all that!
I'd love to go to Iceland. Particularly for Gull Foss and the Hallgrímskirkja. X |

"I found myself deeply affected by the poverty I saw in different countries, did it affect you too?"
To be honest, no. What we think is poverty to us is normal life to many in other countries. I don't believe everyone in the world needs to live like we do, or needs a detached brick property, with electricity etc. The way we all live is relative to our environment. I had a great time drinking warm cow's milk in dung huts, with the Masaii Mara tribe. Some of them now have mobile phones which in my opinion is a horrible western influence.
I saw a lot of greed, particularly in Africa. This affected me more.
The young Brazilian kids in the favellas in Rio, with their makeshift footballs. were probably happier than some of the spoiled kids in this country, with their iPads and Xboxes.
Make sense?

I was affected by stories of genocide, particularly in Cambodia and Rwanda/Uganda.
And the land mine situation in Laos. |

Yes it makes perfect sense, another thing which surprised me in Kenya was the colour prejudice between the different black people.
I was talking in a bar in Mombassa to a black guy and when he went to the loo I was approached by two lighter skinned blokes who told me 'You shouldn't talk to him because he's black' WTF? |

I can believe it. What did you say to them?
That's why they spend so much time and effort killing each other. Carving up Africa into its current territories just worsened the tribal warfare situation. Human life over there takes less of a precedent than power and status.
Jesus, don't get me started on Aftican politics! Haha |

I guess a social would be in order, so I can make my own judgement based on the experience |

I told them I would speak to whoever I wanted to....and made a point of buying the bloke a drink when he returned. |

Mobile phones are life changing for rural communities like the Massai. I think televisions in village bars have had a more disruptive influence. |

Yes, some tribesmen are enjoying the new-found access to western pornography on their phones, as I discovered. |

"I Mr would love to go back to Cuba before the Americans get there hands on it"
Oh God! Yes. Bloody loved Cuba. One of the most beautiful beaches at Varadero.
So innocent and safe to travel...go while you can, before drugs and guns take over! |

For anyone who hasn't seen the previous thread:
I spent 3 years travelling the globe, as a lone female wanderer. I started in Rio, Brazil at the beginning of 2012 and finally finished by spending three months backpacking around the UK which finished at the back end of 2014.
From the bottom of South America, through Central America, Mexico, 37 US states, into Canada, up to Alaska, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Asia then Africa...with a few random stops on the way such as Easter island... |
