I've got 7 ish half written songs, I have access to a studio, and I can get them recorded, is there a way to publish on itunes or any other music website without having the backing of a label?

Would self publishing be expensive?

Is there anywhere I can publish material and allow people to download it for free?

Yup Soundcloud would be my recommendation. I have friends who do it this way.

My last band had one demo done in a proper studio.

The one after we recorded in a college dorm room, this one actually came out better

I write and record my own songs too and generally just upload to SoundCloud and then post them on social media.
