There's not much you can do to cure it faster but Lemsip Max Strength capsules are really good at managing the symptoms.
Take a spoonful of honey for a sore/mucus-y throat. Drink plenty of fluids.
Honey and lemon in hot water and hot toddies can also help make you feel better. Some people swear curries and spicy food help. Some people say sweating it out in a gym helps it pass faster.
Otherwise it's down to helping your immune system battle the virus. Be sure you are getting the right nutrients and do what you can to help your immune system, such as staying warm. |

That's not what it claims in the product info.
It's designed to kill the virus and prevent it infecting the tissue at the back of the nose and throat. Once the virus is established, it's too late.
It needs to be used as soon as possible, at the very first sign of a cold. That's what the manufacturers say anyway, unless they've changed their advice recently. |

Oh noooo what a bummer!!
This works for me:
Towel over head, head over bowl of steaming hot water at least twice a day.
Olbas oil on raised pillow & plenty of water to drink. Don't execrcise, take it easy & have lemsip if you ache.
Good luck |

Lots of water... Flush it out.. Hot water with lemon in the morning. Lots of vitamin c... Normal paracetamol works just as well as any expensive 'cold remedy'..
Wives tales that have worked in my house..
Cut a raw onion in half and leave it in your room next to your bed until it dries up.
Rub vix on your feet at night and cover with socks.
A hot toddy.. Hot water, lemon and whisky or brandy

When used at the first signs of a cold, Vics First Defence nasal spray has been clinically proven to help stop a cold in its tracks and not develop into a full-blown cold. It can also reduce syptom severity and duration - straight from the instruction leaflet of the bottle I used when I last had a cold. The cold was already developed but was gone two days after starting to use it |

Trials showed it reduced symptom severity and duration when used early, before full onset.
There's nothing to suggest it's at all effective if used after the cold has developed so you may just have been lucky with yours. Your immune system beat it quickly.
I think taking First Defence once the cold is established is a waste of time. The clue is in the product name, First Defence. It doesn't attack colds, it defends against them. |

Antihistamines, any will do, the type you would take for hay fever, it dries everything up, the non drowsy ones obviously and if you pick the one a day, then you can actually take one in the morning and one in the evening and then you can carry on taking paracetomol if your aching, they work I promise, I would start tomorrow and take them all week, good luck, Mrs cmyxxxx |

Sounds like your immune system isn't as strong as it should be lovely! I'm guessing you have a pretty healthy diet - but I'd suggest eating/drinking lots of vitamin C rich foods and drinks and taking vitamin supplements on a daily basis! Do you get enough rest/sleep?
I'm annoyingly lucky. Rarely get ill at all and never for more than a couple of days. Xx |

If you read about how the product works - it has no active ingredients - you'll see why it's pointless once a cold has taken hold.
Great, you got had a cold that cleared up fast and you happened to be using First Defence at the same time. That's not evidence the two things are related. The clinical trials suggest they are not, unless you began taking First Defence before the cold took hold.
I'm telling you the results of the trials, not making random guesses based on a cold I had once and a leaflet I've misunderstood.
But yeah, based on a cold you once had and a leaflet you've misunderstood, your advice is definitely better and absolutely trumps the clinical trial.

I got first defense! I thought: yes! This shit is marvelous, and soon as i had that first sneeze and funny taste on the roof of my mouth out it came. I braced and *pshhhh* up it goes. .. 10 seconds go by.. nothing then: twitch of the eye, and 35 sneezes in a row ended my nose and airways. Coughing blood for days and the cold? Well i had just opened a nice door for it to ride me like no other. ..
If you didn't read all that: appears you can be allergic to it |

I react badly to it too. It's how I would imagine squirting napalm up my nose would feel.
It's harsh stuff. Telling people to use it when it's too late to do any good, as above, is daft. It's not cheap either. |

I have no problem sleeping. My lad isn't keen tho! Plus he's had a chest infection and has, been coughing all night every night for nearly a month even a double course of antibiotics hasn't shifted it. So I've been up a lot with him. |
