Just watching the news and one of the stories was about a young gitl who wrote a letter to a burglar.
Just wondered what the people on fab would put in their letter?
Obviously no one would like to hear what my letter would say but it made me wonder! |

My letter would be in two parts....
The second part would depend on the answer I received to the first part which would simply ask.......
What need in your life drove you too justify stealing someone else's property....? |

I would have said sorry my dog disturbed you and you only had time to take my purse with my last £5 in. I'm glad I didn't come down to number bloodbath and thank you for closing the window after you so she didn't escape. I hope you needed the £5 more than I did. |

I guess it's victim restorative practice. Meant to make the offender see that the victim is a person and how it affects them?
Sure you can write how you're going to find them and pull their toenails off,but I'm guessing they won't reflect much on that? |

I can imagine how I might feel even though it's never happened but I know that there would be no point me writing a letter if it didn't help me. |

Yes been burgled very bad experience. They stole lots of "family heirlooms" that were worth fuck all but meant the world to us". Of course anything that shone, tv etc. But what infuriated me more than anything was they stole my daughters money box and rummidged through her belongings, she was about 4 months old at the time. Still makes me furious to this day if i ever think about it. |

it's horrible. I only know one victim of burglary and it took them a long time to feel safe again. |

It's just not the physical items taken but the lost security you feel in your own home.
I suspect I would be fat too better to write a letter but if I did I think I would try and get them to see what impact they have on peoples lives |

When we were burgled years ago, they rummaged through our CDs and left them!
So I'd ask what were they looking for?
Luckily insurance paid to replace the necklace Mr DDC bought me to thank me for having our kids, wouldn't waste my time guilt tripping on that, I got over it quickly.

Yes it can take a life time to get over, particularly for the old and infirm, but the burglar will do his time and have forgotten about it before his sentence is done. |

Yes. I think that's what these letters are about, making the criminal realise the impact on his or her victims life. |
