Dunraven Windows keep ringing, I've told them to ring my other number which is the number for a PPI firm nuisance number.

I've got loads of numbers on my block list, and it's growing daily. Whenever a woman rings I usually ask her what colour knickers she has on and the phone goes dead quickly. I've also tried only answering yes to every question they ask and that just pisses them off.

So i'm interested to hear, what funny tales you have and what you have done to combat this modern nuisance?

I don't answer any numbers I don't recognise, then I Google it and if it's ppi /sales/ something I'm not interested in I add it to the block app I use, problem solved.

I answered one the other day about "my car accident". I strung her along for a while until she asked about the extent of my injuries and I told her the accident was quite serious and I had died of my injuries. She didn't speak ..... I hung up.

so you think its ok to turn a call into a sexually inappropriate one for kicks then? I'd be careful doing that, they have your details and their calls are usually recorded.

why not just tell then you are on the tps and hang up?

I never answer my landlines as it's usually 'get a free boiler ' or PPI..just let machine answer ...on my mobile I don't answer 08 or numbers from different parts of country....way I look at it. ..If it's important they will leave a voicemail. .

I do 'free' boilers etc..I'm reasonably successful at it..worked in the energy markets for a good while now(people forget the big 6(energy companies),have been outsourcing business, selling client details for years etc)

People in general are looking for a better deal..sometime it has to be landed in front of them, whether its face to face or over the phone....though I hate cold calling..but I cant say it doesnt work, as my most recent sales prove.

I get a lot of calls about being in a car accident, the first time it was very upsetting because it was the anniversary of my brothers passing away in a road accident, I've asked them to not call and to put me on a do not call list, but still they call, so I'm logging each time they call me, and each time I ask them nit to call this number again

I keep them on the phone as long as possible. Figure while I'm on to them they are not ripping off some poor little old lady. One didn't realise for about 50 mins. Then he got aggressive and told me to fuck off! I was like, well, you called me actually.....

I had a good one the other day.

A woman from the 'MicroSoft Security Department' called to tell me there was a security breach on my computer.

"Oh," says I, "That's odd. You're the second person today to ring up about that. I spoke to a lovely man this morning, I gave him all my credit card details and he fixed it!"

She hung up.

We were getting them every night for a while. Like some of you we decided to have a bit of fun with them. The idea being to keep them on the line as long as possible.

I would keep repeating "What do you want" in a loud voice.

Answer, then say "hang on" then leave the phone right next to the telly speaker.

Act like a senile old person in a tremulous voice, saying "eh? eh? I've already got me windows eh? eh?

Didn't stop it so we've unplugged the phone lol

I just put on movie parts that sound mean.

They soon put the phone down.

I just put the phone by the television. Tonight's window-selling company's caller was treated to 20 minutes of Pointless.

Depends on my mood, usually I just say not in trestle and hang up, sometimes I torment them, but it is quite sadistic. they are usually very low paid and desperate for work.

Hi, can I speak to Mr Chylly?

You bastards, it was his funeral today!!!!

Oh I'm sorry....

... Then I'd go into a speech of how great I was and start to cry.

They are really speechless

I just don't answer the phone, it's only them or my mother in law.

I used to get a lot of dirty calls when I worked in inbound call centres though. There are some weirdos out there who appear to get off on a bored lady with a soft Geordie accent reading out the train stations of the Carlisle to Settle line.

Google Tom Mabe, he records marketing calls and how he leads them on. The one with the caller ringing a murder scene and getting the police investigating is pure genius

register with tps - when they call and you tell them you have done this they should know that they are ringing you illegally - mine stopped pretty much completely after just a week

I ignore most unknown numbers.

I use TPS. I insist on company details if I do speak.

I report businesses to the Information Commissioner, who takes legal action against businesses who break the law, such as making contract with me.

Download one of those call blocking apps, basically if your number is on one of those telesales lists.. Very little you can do beyond downloading and enabling the "unknown number" option.

Some even have a community black list function that updates and blocks spam numbers automatically.
