He actually got in to the antiques trade by chance as he originally trained as a stained glass repairer of which he is an expert.

I can see why there is a split opinion as to whether people like him. He does have an 'out for himself/ narcissistic vibe' but that can go well with being successful in business.

If I may say, I find his wife to be extremely annoying. I’m not sure if this is because she reminds me of a mate's wife who is horribly annoying, though. I cannot decide!

Maybe he finds her annoying too; that’s why he was shagging another woman. And got walloped for it

Yes he does some good work, he had made the odd mistake, but it’s all good viewing.
