So Friday is looming, and like most people in their early 20's, I like to get sh*tfaced on the weekend. Fond of cocktails, what would you fellow fabbers recommend? |

Cocktail bar I used to go to did one called a Flash Gordon. I think it had vodka, lemonade and grenadine in it (maybe some other ingredients? )
It tasted and looked like Tizer pop, but was quite strong because of the amount if vodka in it. |

Great subject.
It's definitely a Rum one. I can't understand the way gin has taken off. There is so much more variety and flavour in Rum and it's even better for cocktails.
But which is best?
Cuba Libres are probably my usual, with a nice spiced rum, but that's more of a mixer than a cocktail.
Zombie's and Mai Tai's are nice. In the summer Strawberry Daiquiri's and Pina Colada's take some beating. Hurricanes are superb.
Dark and Stormy's are very nice.
Then there is the Long Island Ice Tea which, if made well, is very sophisticated.
I think my favourite is a Rum Old Fashioned. I'm not a big fan of whisky, though an old fashioned with a rye whisky is nice, but it's better with a decent golden rum.
The only rum cocktail I don't like much is a mojito because of the mint. |
