Well no I don't want advice as I'm going to pop up and see the nurse.
But just wondered what this could be.
A few weeks ago I banged my thumb on the side, nothing serious just felt like a bruise but no bruise, it started to get more sore.
Anyway it's at the point now where its difficult to open and close my hand the hand aches more like a throb wrist a pain shoots when I move it a round and the throbbing is now going up my arm.
What sort of thing could it be |

Your fingers can only swell a limited amount, the swelling will tend to move up the arm. It's only a concern if you can feel numbness or the thumb turns a dark colour really. Keep it levitated so it goes down. |

I can't see what I can possibly have done, the thumb isn't broken or anything |

You have a lot of nerves in that area, possibly bruised it internally and the nerves are irritated by it.
Go to a walk in centre if it's bad, otherwise take ibuprofen and keep it levitated and rested. |

I'm not one to go to the doctors and I don't think it's serious but its the fact it's been a few weeks and getting worse. We don't have a walk in centre here, I will just see the nurse at the doctors |

Does it ease off if you shake your wrist/hand?" it loosens the movement in my hand when I do that, to get my hand to work i shake it and squeeze it together |

When I had carpal tunnel, needing to shake it was one of the things that helped diagnose it (it helped relieve it). Perhaps mention that to your nurse. |

"Get it checked; you say it's not broken; but it could have a hairline crack ,
Or as Wasp said, a tendon issue.
Though the " cure" is probably immobilize it, take anti-inflammatories."
In my case if I'd gone a week before they would have done surgery - but I had left it too late. |

"Oh I forgot, its tendonitis, antiinflammatories for two weeks if no better maybe an injection"
The injection doesn't hurt at all. Takes 2 seconds with a tiny needle, usually at your GPs. It's counted as surgery, but it's not really surgery. If it works, you'll have to keep having it done every few months. Unless you're v lucky and once fixes it. |

If it's cortisone I'd suggest trying to rehab without it first. It's not a good thing to rely on. |
