There appears to be several subjects which are way too contentious to try and agree on in the forums.

I now just avoid some of them instead of getting drawn in.

Spelling, married men,sex whilst driving,Conservative policy.....which subjects are too hot for you to handle or even bother trying?

No point trying to get everyone to agree as that's the one certainty, it'll never happen.

Surely the fact we're all different with our own opinions, is a good thing. How boring the forum would be if we all agreed on everything

True, but some threads are like a coloseieum the moment you enter, and offering a perspective is like brandishing a trident in an aggressive manner at another gladiator, instead of debating!

I do my best to stay away from the subject of race/racism, but then someone says something so astronomical dumb, I can't help myself, I must try harder with that.

If everyone ignored those posts and stuck to the debate they'd eventually give up

I know I know, never going to happen lol

"Number One Chap got shot down in flames on a thread about body shape and size.

He's new on the forums, I've given him some pointers.

He won't heed them "

It's just preferences but people get upset over those too. Additionally, some people mean well but don't say what they mean and that can lead to dismay too.

It's always going to be hard when it's a subject close to your heart. And seeing someone make profound statements, without any factual substance always makes me want to jump in.

Wasn't that settled by a court case, and the ruling.g was that a cake goes hard when stale, but a biscuit goes soft when stale, I'm sure that the people who.make jaffa cakes took it to court for vat reasons

Nothing's off limits but of the vibe is dank then I may not. The issue is probably that some of us are too rigid in our thinking and are looking for an argument, in the guise of a discussion - though will readily slip in some fawning drivel to women on the thread.

When I first started on here I thought that it would be great because were all open minded individuals (yes I know!) now I realise that there's just as much prejudice and ignorance on here as anywhere else. Any topic that may provoke a strong reaction will be even more so on fab

"Spelling, married men,sex whilst driving,Conservative policy.....which subjects are too hot for you to handle or even bother trying?"

Hold on - I can understand mixed opinion on the others, but sex whilst driving?! That's just putting everyone on/near the road in danger. "Sorry officer, I was too busy getting sucked off to see the kids crossing the road and accidentally flattened them, I'm sure you understand".

But otherwise, same here - after getting into a few threads like you mentioned, I gave up. Nobody goes into them thinking "let's see if I can change my mind about this subject I have strong opinions on" (factual basis completely optional, by the way), so like the thread title says it just becomes a thread of "you're wrong", "no, you're wrong"

I avoid anything that will turn into a slanging match. Apart from the married threads i occassionally say my piece in those. But it takes a lot to even get me mildly annoyed by words on a screen.

I honestly couldnt care less if my views are agreed with or not. I do my thing and let others do their xx

Not much I don't read or post on but I don't go into the politic type threads as I know nothing about politics to even have a view and I don't open sports threads although just lately I like to have my say about Leicester.

But I wouldn't acoidma thread because it was contentious

Good point. It's not the fact anybody disagrees, it's how they debate that difference that matters. Entering with an overly emotive or angry statement tells me a lot about the poster.

It's not about being academically intelligent. Politics affects all of us,so your opinion is as relevant as the next.
