Personally I don't think it's particularly related beyond trust in a partnership. I know people with no mental health problems who are kinky, some who are vanilla. And I know some people with really severe mental health problems who are kinky, and again some who are very vanilla.

A vast majority of the people I interact with on my favorite kink site have some kind of mental health issue, ranging from depression to no-polar (if there is such a scale, but that's a different discussion) with a high proportion of people with borderline personality disorder, however its not clear if they have mental.health issues because they are kinky, or if they are kinky because they have mental health issues.
Some have said that certain aspects if bdsm help with their mental.health but I would love to see a proper medical study into this. |
