Brucie was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2006 New Year Honours list, having already been an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. His show-biz awards include Variety Club Show Business Personality of the Year in 1975; TV Times Male TV Personality of the Year, in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978; and BBC TV Personality of the Year in 1991.
Now it seems theres growing calls for him to be awarded a knighthood, in honour of his long career, and "charity work".
Hmm…. Now I’m neither in favour nor against Brucie Being knighted…. but surely there’s a lot of unsung heroic individuals out there who’ve never benefited from having their worthy contributions to society publicly recognised…..
So in context it would seem giving Bruce this extra tribute is more of sentimentally based gustier rather than one gained meritoriously over and above the recognition he has already had bestowed upon him,,,
But hey, its not gonna rock the world apart, and if it make some people happy...wheres the harm....

I'm sure to get 2 gold medals you need to train your arse off-probably from a young age,not going out with mates and having fun, getting up early to train etc.
I'm not saying Brucie shouldn't get one,and I've no doubt he's worked hard over the years, but he's been handsomely rewarded for it I'm sure! |

A knighthood these days is pretty meaningless, so probably quite apt for Brucie. He'll be called Sir Bruce and have the right to take a flock of geese across old London town on the sabbath. It won't probably bring him any more money, or any more fame, so good luck to the old buzzard. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets the award and drops down dead a week later |

Would he want a knighthood that had been cajouled from an adoring public though? The recipients of knighthoods always say what a surprise it was. Not much of a treat to him if we petition her maj on his behalf... I think it would embarrass him more thinking it hadn't occured to anyone to give him a knighthood prior to public pressure to bestow the honour. |

"Should be bloody retired"
Second that. I consider him an absolute dinosaur for his attitudes and humour (not just his age). Not that my opinion counts for jack.
There are so many innovative, dedicated, energetic comedians and hosts who could do the same job and connect with a wider audience. Also seems selfish to keep these people out when he's had 120yrs in the biz.
Go play golf and bore everyone on the 19th Brucie.
Apologies to those who hold him in slightly higher esteem. |

"Should Bruce Forsyth be knighted???"
A man of a bygone year who was at one point talented but he has gone on too long and he may well be remembered for his later year doddering. Its a shame really as if you look back at some of his variety performances 40 years or more ago he was a far different person, both talented and quick witted which is a long way from his strictly performances these days. I don't really think he deserves a knighthood but possible a MBE. |

"absolutely.... there are if there are two "entertainers" that should be knighted then the next two should be Brucie and Rolf Harris.....
both are legends....."
Can Rolf Harris be Knighted? Just wondering on that with him being Australian. |

I used to think that Brucie was an ok kind of guy until I saw him last year on Piers Morgans life stories....
To me he came across as a bit of a bigheaded old fool to be honest, he seemed to crave attention and I should think he would me mortified if he walked down the street and no-one acknowledged him...
So for me I would guess he is not alltogether popular amongst many people who make these decisions on such matters. |

surely its not about if we like him or not, but his services to entertainment and the charity work he's done
over 50years at the bbc/itv is quite an achievement. too still be respected and have his dedication to his career is quite commendible

He hasn't done it for the love of it though....he's done it to earn a living.
I would say he has already had his rewards for his service to the entertainment industry, this is reflected in the very comfortable lifestyle he leads.....and good luck to him for that.
