(f) of couple asking a little question - Why do men get so excited about cars..Hubby has been chatting to his mate about the "new" Delorean - ffs it's a car or am I wrong ?????

I (Mr) don't! If it starts and moves, that's fine with me!

And I'm not one who holds with a car defines my masculinity. I drove a pink Ford ka for months!

I think, personally. It's not a show of masculinity, it's just the fact that it's a big toy.

Boys in the play ground speak of the new xbox games coming out. Mens speak about the new cars coming out.

For me a car is a toy.

Having been a mechanic for several years and having to recover many accidents kind of knocked the whole petrol head thing out of me...having to sort out a car that had been rolled into a field after the driver failed to take a corner, killed his gf and he was there that long (it was a dark country road at night) that he had started to heal into the dashboard sort of puts you off...

It's the love of cars and their engineering that I think does it for me.

Give me an Aston Martin DBS and im in heaven... failing that anything that has a V8 power plant and does 0-60 in less than 4 seconds.

I've really no idea. Why does anyone prattle on about anything? I guess some people just have deep interests in things that others just can't fathom or simply don't care for.

Personally I just see cars as a means to get from A to B. They don't interest me in the slightest.

Ooh, the gender stereotypes in this thread

I know plenty of women that are interested in cars and one in particular takes classic cars and repairs them to pristine condition.

Me, they are a device that transports us around. Handbags, I have one and it carries my stuff around and shoes I put on my feet; I think I have four pairs. I can't be fussed with any of it to be honest!

I would never have called myself a petrol head until l got a fun car.

Previously l had driven diesels, and cheap crappy ones at that. My current car is a Golf GTI and it opened my eyes to tuning/remapping and modifying my car, along with doing work on my own car, things which l would never have thought about before.

Now lm on forums every day, learning new things and enjoying my car.

Dunno if it's just guys. I often spend half an hour or so with my headphones plugged into my phone and I lay on my sofa and listen to supercar noises, start ups, accelerations and downshift noises, I like to imagine I'm driving them! If a motorbike drives last me I open my window to listen to it. Plus before I got pregnant and still lived at home with my grandfather I had a Nissan 350Z with meisterschaft exhaust and was the best 2 years of my life when I had that car and miss her dearly

Because it's a hobby and something we care about.

I can't seem to get reasonable insurance on a fast car, even a 1.3 jap import glanza it goes to prices I'm not willing to pay.

They can't however dictate how loud I go

I ended up going down the audio car route - looking into new subwoofers. Currently got two 10" JL audio W7s on 1000 watts RMS, looking to go up to two sundown Audio 10" Zv4 on 4000 watts RMS.

With proper power supply I could see 150dB from these......simply put, the loudest audio car In the uk within BB2 category (boot boomers2. 1X12" or 2X10")

I've always loved cars, ferraris being my favourite although not quite in my budget but I do drive a 1993 Nissan 300 ZX TT with a 450 bhp motor by Tommy Kira, probably the closest I will get to a super car

He lived long time in Switzerland (still has a flat there) and was in one of their accident units. He told me how they had to cut off roofs of cars and when they picked up the bodies inside they fell to bits as so smash

So he knows what accidents can do and has seen loads and been there giving first aid

You choose it. You drive it. Its your space. You can love and care for it. Each car has its pros and cons. Its own character. Although petrol head is a term thats kinder going a different way. My friend has a Tesla full eletric car the design engineering and technology is just amazing. Ive loved the Audi Rs6 Advant for years but now id rather have a Tesla. Driving used to be fun. Now its just crap out there. Having had two classics written off 1 twice. It just take the fun out off it. Spent hours and hours on somthing just for someone to wreck it.

I can't say they get me wet or anything like that, there are some very nice everyday cars out there, some are more luxurious than others and some go faster, the only difference is the badge. Tbh I didn't realise there was a new DeLorean!
