If it's kidney related, avoid antiinflammatories. They're not too kind to kidneys.

Here, there and everywhere!

If your prescribed meds aren't working go back to the gp, as they can prescribed stronger and more suitable drugs than you will get over the counter.

Lots of water, pain killers but not anti-inflammatory, avoid red meat and beer, rest your feet as much as possible and wear comfy, non tight socks and footwear.

"Iv got naproxen, seems to work quite well"

Have you had your kidney function tested? Sometimes doctors don't bother, but as gout and kidneys are so closely related, you ought to ask. Also, some doctors aren't aware of not prescribing NSAIDs to kidney patients so you may be putting your function at risk with Naproxen.

"What is gout? "

It's a type of arthritis. Causes swelling and pain in joints, mainly in the foot.

Chinese herbal doctors suggest flooding your system with as much water as you can take (literally, down a litre of water as often as you can physically take without being sick). It'll flush the purine deposits out of your joints.

I used to date a guy with gout.

on the road to nowhere in particular

Drink as much water as you can get down you, preferably hot. Eat cherries, you can get concentrated cherry juice in health food shops or cycling shops

Stay off the booze, offal, rich foods and gravy

No, they're all fine to be taken together, but Naproxen isn't best if your gout is caused by kidney disease. If it's your foot, remember to keep it lifted. It's a build up of uric acid, so the more you drink, the better.
