Beware now if you have anything diliverered outside of the EU that incurrs import duty . £2.12 import duty & £8 handing charge by the rip off post office . Will be mailing there head office to tell them that there will be a handling charge for all the junk mail that I have to pick up off the floor and put in the bin . Think £8 per item should be ok . Will properly have to get vat registered with the amount I get through my door .
Sorry for rant but this is outrageous |

How long do you think it takes to fill out customs forms and lodge them on your behalf?
And how much do you think the person should be paid for doing that?
Also, how much rent, equipment cost, and other miscellaneous expenses do you think it should cost for the person to do their job?
Staff, supplies, equipment, training, and office space aren't free you know. If you don't want to get stung by an £8 customs charge then alternatively you could get a private courier or a shipping company to import your package. When I worked in logistics our minimum customs paperwork charge was £67. |

Aye, I post a bit to the States and it's already ridiculous how much I'm paying at times. When you look at delivery services here and how often your parcels are "vanishing", it appears quite the double standard to incur such high costs. |

Exactly:
Dead cheap for what they actually have to do.

"If you say the package contains a gift, does that waver the import?
It dose but this was a work item "
No: a gift doesn't actually waiver the import charge; but Customs often don't bother to charge import for small value gifts .

"If you say the package contains a gift, does that waver the import?"
Yes up to a certain value.
However it's against the law for you to try and evade import charges this way, and it's usually against the law for a seller to write that on the package if the item is not in fact a gift. |

It's not really a 'cash cow' - it's what it costs for them to provide that service to you.
I mean, I suppose you could buy in the computer system access (thousands) and employ someone part time with the knowledge to use the computer system (thousands)... but... seems a bit cheaper to pay the £8 every now and again to be honest. |

"they all do it, i was once charged by dhl, 0.21p import duty charge but also a £12 handling charge. now that is a rip off for 21p i had to pay."
It isn't though;
The handling charge is not linked to the amount of duty paid; the paperwork is the same whether you are paying 21 pence or £ 21,000 in import duty ......
And if one company choose to charge £12 for their import service admin, another £8, then that's the cost they have worked out will reimburse them for their time. |
