bought a new kettle a few days ago - its brilliant - boils fast and quietly whilst sat on the side of the worktop - instructions said to boil kettle 3 or 4 times to get rid of manufacturing isms and such-so we did that and have used it several times since and still im getting the odd brew that has a metallic taste to it - thats it - moan over

Bicarbonate of soda is the way to go.

Fill the kettle and add two tbsp of bicarb and bring to the boil. Empty and rise well. Refill with clean water, boil again and discard.

Some kettles seem to do this and others don't. We had one once that continued to do it despite trying all the tricks and we took it back in the end.
