Been before. It gets busy . Do you mean train station or bus station ? Cheltenham train station is not in the centre. It's the other side of town to the racecourse . Lots of the pubs do Race breakfasts etc so if you get there early , there's lots to do on your way up to the course . We've walked to the race course from the town centre.

So yes I'd get into Cheltenham fairly early - even more so on Gold Cup day.

It's walkable , probably 20/30 minute walk into centre , same up to the course from the centre.

We are staying in the Ellenbough park hotel and can walk to the course via a private road we have a small share in 2 runners this year (about a legs worth each) and both are in top 4 in the betting for there races. We also have reserved tables overlooking the 1 furlong marker, so drop us a note a few days before and If any of our guests drop out you are welcome to join us for lunch, and welcome either way after lunch to share a few bottles and some fun

They usually put on special buses from the train station to the course, it's as busy as you'd expect 75,000 ppl at a sporting event to be

I live in Worcester and come in from the north...easier access and can get a steam train to the steam trust station adjacent to the racecourse!
