An insurance policy (for my rented property) I got it on an introductory offer last year and the renewal came through the post. Just shy of £100. Rang to cancel and got it for £70.
Feeling smug
Anyone got any other top money saving tips? |

"Moneysavingexpert is my top tip.
And Quidco."
This.
Signed up to MSE middle of last year.
Since then I've swapped to a fixed price energy provider saving £25 a month. I also rung up sky and said I was leaving and managed to get it down from £73 to £43 a month and I am not missing anything.
Also having brought a new tv, washing machine and tumble dryer since November I have had money back for making such purchases. |

If you have a credit card that you don't pay off in full but have always paid on time ring every six months and speak to the department that deals with loyal customers and ask for a reduction in your interest rate.
Shop in Aldi and the Co-op and become a co-op member, I get a £1 off £10 shop voucher with my receipt every couple of weeks.

Experience the thrills of a skiing holiday without the expense. Simply sellotape two planks of wood to your feet, sit in your freezer for three hours, then run into a tree as fast as you can. |

Where men are men, and sheep are nervous...! |
Basically, any business which deals with the public selling them something will try to always get the most ££'s they can get away with. They have historically played on the British antithesis to haggling...
Now we are all getting a bit more savvy on that score, there is all the more reason to haggle... specially as the businesses - and they're usually big businesses - are all building in more and more margin in their prices to counter it.
Always haggle - never accept the first price... |

A couple of years ago I couldn't be bothered to do the usually ringing round and internet searching to find the lowest car insurance renewal.
I looked at my quote and decided what I'd be happy to pay. It worked out to needing a 15% discount.
I picked a small insurance company which I guessed (rightly) wouldn't have their system connected to my insurer, to enable them to check and compare quotes.
I called my insurer and told them the small company had given me a quote of the amount I wanted to pay, with a random number of pence, and could they match it. Was it a like for like policy, they asked. Yes, I decided it was.
They put me on hold for a minute to 'see what they could do'.
They got close to the price but I took a small gamble and said no, sorry, I've been with you for however many years (7 I think) but if you can't match this, it makes sense for me to take the new (imaginary quote). When my insurance expires in 10 days, I won't be renewing. Ok, sorry to hear that, they said.
Less than 2 minutes after I hung up they called back. They'd "found" a customer loyalty bonus discount I was eligible for. They not only matched my imaginary quote but beat it by a few pounds.
That saved me money and hours of insurance policy searches and comparisons. |

My energy supplier pissed me off 3 weeks or so ago and it was the final straw.
I switched, using the MSE switcher thingy. I'm saving £10/month and I'm due £30 cashback on the switch. |

Here is a handy one for you my knicker munching buddy.
Save money on expensive pet carriers. If you need to take your cat to the vets, tie its tail to one of its back legs to make an excellent carry handle |

I have steel toe capped safety boots.
Failing that I'll weld the manhole cover to something fixed and leave you there! |
