there seems to be many short term savings that virtually handcuff any future governments abilities to act.
when i vote in a government, i do so for what they promise for that term, yet...what this governemtn seem to be doing is making decisions that any future government will be unable to overturn..such as clipping the wings of the nimrods. The cost to do that and the cost for scrapping with cost £200m...not short change....they could have put them into storage or sold them on, but they have chosen to act in a way that is irreversible and their actions were so fast as to make it impossible to believe that they put any serious thought into it...there was certainly no optioneering process which is an absolute necessity when considering achieving value for money measures.
i worry where this drive for short term savings is going to lead us in the long term and how any future government is going to recover from it |

"They have done few things that arn't rational. They will have their reasons but won't be telling us what they are "
well, not until they are positive that they are irreversible.

Aircraft carriers without fighters, bombers without wing tips what ever next. I see no tax rises though or the uber rich |

i'm waiting for the day they realise they have to ground ships that need to go more than 100 miles out to sea...as they realise they don't have nimrods to save their asses if anything goes wrong.
...or is that collateral?

Earlier today a Tornado had to ditch off the west coast of Scotland. The crew were rescued safely.
One commentator pointed out "This rescue was co-ordinated from a centre at Kinloss which faces closure, involved a rescue helicopter from Stornoway whose station is threatened with closure, and involved a tug boat service which is also being axed."
All these closures are being made as cost saving measures by the Tory led government.

everything will either be axed or grounded as it doesnt have the support it needs
we are leaving this country vulnerable as there are those that dont believe that defence is a necessity |

"They have done few things that arn't rational. They will have their reasons but won't be telling us what they are "
their reasons are plain to see.
they are financed by big business so all they do is scrap one project and hand a new contract for a replacement to their backers.
thats all that government is about nowadays. gone are the days of government for the people. it is now a race to hand out contracts to their backers and friends.

That's not what Liam Fucks said earlier today when asked about how the UK would survive without Nimrod. His answer was to use helicopters |

I think we can safely assume that'll be left to the Big Society. Groups of concerned citizens who'll rally together to fill the gaps left by the Tory-led government spending cuts.
A spot of air-sea rescue 300 miles out? No problem at all sir. |

we're talking about a fleet of airplanes that have never taken to the air and only one of which had passed it's air trials (yet it has never flown) go figure. |

Hammer the govt for its failings, please do, but not for media soundbites issued by labour affiliated rag tags who commissioned the Nimrod fleet in the first place. Get with it ppl ffs. |

Those would be the hunter-killer anti-sub helis we've been using for 10 years... whilst waiting for the Nims to get their fat sterling heavy asses off the ground? |

the coalition, must have thought they had died, and gone to heaven.when ed milliband, and not david, was elected leader of the labour party.
it's given them free reign, and they're taking total advantage.no matter how bad they are.or how many u turns, they make.ed does'nt have the savvy,to take advantage.
as usual, with the tories.those who have the most,to give.are being asked to contribute the least.
it's a dangerous situation,when you have a clueless government,combined with a weak oposition. |
