"Why?.. It's what we are... Genuine question. Not being funny... I just think that woman or lady sounds nicer. I agree with Wasp Hunter's point." but some think lady is objectifying women as the weaker sex. So you can't have the word lady. We should all just be called things.

"It *is* objectification. It's referring to someone as a female animal, not a human woman. I don't understand how identifying the sex of someone is objectifying them? Why isn't it classification? " I agree, it's just a term to denote gender, same goes for male. Obviously if there is some pejorative context, that is different, but then the same would apply to any other gender label such as woman or man.

"V here. "Female" is a scientific term that refers to the sex of a species that is capable of producing children. The term "woman" refers specifically to human beings, while "female" could refer to any species. I dislike "lady" but that's just my personal opinion. Lady is a title. Vxx" so humans are females?

"It *is* objectification. It's referring to someone as a female animal, not a human woman." Eh? Of all the people to muddle sex and gender, I never thought it would be you! OP your sex is female, your gender is for you to define. I was brought up that a 'woman' worked whereas a 'lady' didn't. If one was unsure one could never go wrong by calling someone a 'lady' - but there have been threads on here even complaining about that. Basically, men can't win. Mr ddc

"It *is* objectification. It's referring to someone as a female animal, not a human woman." You can't simply denigrate a word - because in doing so you risk a precedent for other terms and meanings to be equally dismissed or treated in a derogatory fashion by those who don't agree with them. Certain groups in society are co-opting words for their own devises almost daily - should we decry them their use? Context is everything. It doesn't have to be the word, but how you wield it that matters.

"Just to make a point... I only don't like being called a female where sexual activity is concerned... Ie say, if someone says that they want to have sex with a female, or if someone says that they want to go out to meet females for sex, THAT is what sets my teeth on edge. Other terms, such as female students or female workers and so on, I'm fine with." So what's "wrong" with wanting to have sex with a female?

"So is being called a Lady complimentary or derogatory ? " neither for me its just my title seriously, it might get to the stage where a guy has to be given a check list before he talks to someone of the opposite sex so they know who !likes and doesn't like what. There was a new one on here the other day that someome was offended by that I hadn't heard before

" I think I know why... it goes back to a time where I was sexually objectified & that's where my whole dislike of being objectified comes from." And there you have it. You have a negative association with the term which you project on to it. There's nothing wrong or pejorative about the word itself, just your perception of it. You can't really expect the whole world to change because of your negative experience.

It just comes across to me as objectification." Females are easily niggled,it's a female thing. At certain times of the month, any word can be niggling for Mrs saucy. were I not perfect,at times I would suspect it wasn't the word that niggled,it was me,phaah!!. "So I'm guessing the general consensus is with a few exceptions "suck it up" it's only a word." Or "use it as a filter". If someone speaks in a way you're not comfortable with, you're probably not going to be comfortable meeting and playing with them. Personally, when men refer to a "female" and it sounds as though they are just looking for a warm object with the requisite holes, rather than a person, it puts me off. If it doesn't sound like that, no problem. If men feel female is the right way to express what they mean and accept it may put some women off, fair enough. It's just another of the ways we can use to work out who we may get along with and who we probably won't. Over the years I've heard women object to female, girl, lady, bird, chick and all sorts of other terms. Using "woman" seems safest to me, since that definitely denotes a human, female person. A "female" could be a dog, a duck, a holly bush... "Female" describes as aspect of me but it doesn't necessarily mean a person.

"On here where people regularly refer to male profiles, the male or female of an MF couple? Absolutely no problem referring to me as a female in that context. In most others it just makes me think of the dad in Friday Night Dinners. And he amuses me. So no issue here. Obviously, I would prefer to be referred to as a fellow human being and member of the distaff element but that's not going to happen, plus it's a bugger to type." "Shit on it! Shit on the shitting thing!"

"It really niggles me... not in everyday conversation, but in sexual situations - I noticed it while watching Dogging Tales (don't judge me ) last night & I notice it on here quite a bit too. It just comes across to me as objectification." Female is too generic and lacks intimacy. I know that (most) people on here are looking for NSA fun and friendship but I prefer to have sex with a woman not a female

Admittedly the first time a bloke called me "mi-duck" I was a bit , but I soon grew accustomed to it. I honestly don't believe this is sexism, just an honest inability to see the issue. Just pointing out that when people say "suck it up" it generally means "you shouldn't complain about this, you must accept that this is OK, and your objections are pointless". Which is exactly what I want to say to the dudes who use the term but then complain they have no meets. Sure, use it if you want, no one can tell you you can't (just like no one can tell us not to be offended by it), but just accept the consequences of your actions (i.e. women not wanting to meet you because you sound like a fuckboi. Lol).

" Technically 'the same' would be telling men they shouldn't mind being called men, males, blokes, guys, boys, lads, dudes, etc. " Actually "the same" would be referring to men as "males". "Men" is the same as "women" - i.e. they are humans who happen to be men. "Males" is the same as "females" - i.e. they are objects/things/animals who carry the data needed to fertilize the female version of themselves.

"It's dehumanising... it's referring to a woman as an animal. Even, as an object. It also often indicates when people don't have such a good grasp of how to use English.
