This is something I've been thinking about for a while now...buying a telescope, but which type-refractor or reflector.Ive got a budget of around £800..any advice would be welcomed...but in simple terms, not loads of technology jargon what I don't understand...I am just a simple man.
Thanks x |

I just got a budget £100 refractor telescope to get started.
Can still get some awesome views with it, just got to make sure the finder scope is set accurate.
Id love to have one with a built in coordinate finder, at the moment I use an app to locate things in the sky. |

"Anyone seen the new planet xx
Might need a bigger scope xx"
Haga, the new 9th planet .
No one seen it yet, but seems to be the favored possibility to explain some data |

I have always been interested in space/star gazing, But having the time to do it and finding the right places to go has always put me of investing in a decent telescope |

I was up in Scotland on the Isle of Harris with a friend..they were blown away with the view of the night sky, they couldn't belive it was the same night sky as back home, just goes to show about light pollution. |

So like Dirty Pretty Things you've gone with a refractor...is it because they are less hassel |

Actually it was budget that drove the decision , I've got a motorised mount so that's cool. |

Don't go for a refractor, or even a newtonian mirror.
Get a Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector it effectively folds the focal length of the tube by third
As others have said a motorised equatorial mounting is best, not altazimuth
You should be able to get a Celestron for that amount |
