What do you think of the latest news? It didn't surprise me that it was happening. I guess it is not as wide spread as in football yet, but its not fair for the fans who wants them to win. |

When there are people who stand to make a large sum of money for a certain outcome in a sport, then there will be people who are complicit in helping.
Its a sad state of affairs but in a sport where one person makes the mark then that person can be bought.
If four people have sown up the semi finals of grandslams for years then the lesser players will want to secure a meaningful pay cheque however it happens.
This isn't the first nor the last time that a sport will be dragged through this
The only way to prevent this is swift and harsh punishments for those guilty of fixing

"When bookies stop taking bets on tennis matches.. And they have done for ages.. you can pretty much stick a tenner on dodgy stuff going on"
I don't understand that, bookies take bets on all tennis matches and always have done. They've never stopped taking bets on them.
As to the match fixing, like every other sport, corruption will almost be inevitable, however I expect it will only be a very, very small minority of players on the tour (if proven), and will be extremely difficult to prove.
I'd be surprised if there was a top 20 player under the spotlight.

I don't understand that, bookies take bets on all tennis matches and always have done. They've never stopped taking bets on them.

That's the point though, there are! Once outside the top ten the average earnings for a player aren't that great, especially with most grandslams being sown up by the top 5. Many players struggle to fund the trainers and tour schedule that is required. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of top ten players havent thrown a match for a big payday |

I personally don't believe there will be any player who has consistently been in the top 20 throwing matches.
If there was a pattern if this, then so many people would have to be involved, it would have been proven. As it stands, there has not been one example of it proven or even a case highlighted.
That's not to say that it won't happen in tennis, and I'm not naive enough to think it won't go on, but as things stand, no one is able to point to any specific cases and examples of it.
A top 20 player would find it incredibly difficult to conceal throwing a match. |

Perhaps bookies should take bets on whether a match is rigged or not....
.....I mean surly people who enjoy a gamble wouldn't object to having yet another way to blow their dosh....  |

My favourite bet advertised by 'That' Irish bookie was during Oscar pistorious's trial they took bets if he would be found guilty or not.
You'd think it couldn't get any more crass but their slogan was 'money back if he walks!'- genius! Lol |
