So in one picture I've just seen the houses in one Street were either borded up or if they were occupied had red front doors.

To me that says they were all given new/repainted doors and a colour was chosen.

My opposite neighbour has a red door...

Fuck Middlesbrough fc are buggered their doors are red too.

Jeez this is a pathetic story it really is. It doesn't matter what colour the doors are. If the company that owns the 168 houses paid the doors they are hardly going to buy a different colour paint for each door. Not to mention it'll make it even easier to spot the houses as they'll be the one where a guy turns up to paint a red door.

Because they're not thier doors?

It seems at some point the housing company either got a bulk orde rof paint when it decorated its houses or it used red to easily identify its own houses.

Now its got the contract for asylym seekers, this distinguishing factor has lead to people being easily able to target them.

The housing company is now repainting its doors to a mix of colours to prevent this happening again and the police are investigating the incidents

I have to say it all sounds a bit like claptrap to me...

Red door, blue door, green door makes no difference. The truth is a company which owns/manages 200 and odd properties had 60 odd doors painted red (probably because it was the cheapest paint they could get to do the job). Now they will get a contractor in to repaint them another colour but the locals will still know which houses the asylum seekers are in so nothing will change.

My friend has several houses he rents out. He uses the same company to maintain them and they all pretty much have standard fixtures

I doubt it's the colour of the door that's the root of all this angst or the people behind them.

More likely some well meaning person getting offended on their behalf and advising accordingly.

Lots of others are also composite doors (pas 24) if they are also fitted with the right locks. Very expensive and surprise surprise come in red and are very expensive.

The fact is human beings who have been graciously ( no free lunch) offered shelter and solace are now being persecuted incessantly.

I guess some may argue that hate comments and a general feeling of being unwanted are far less of evils compared to actual warfare involving guns and bombs and mortars.

For heaven sake, no sane person rescued from a war torn land would care too much about a door colour. It runs far deeper than that.

Once they get jobs, go shopping, or generally being out in public, the locals will know who the strangers are, a door of any colour won't change that.

I suspect this is a media created issue, and the vandals who need to be caught and punished never noticed the red doors until after it was on the news. So the repainting invoice should be sent to the media chanels.

the issue has only come about, and it was raised a couple of years ago is because some idiots think its ok to target others because of the fact that they (the idiots) see them as different, be that because they are a different colour or they are here seeking asylum/refuge..

that's the issue but as usual it seems for some on here that its ok which is sad..

true but i can't see that people who probably don't know each other from different countries of origin etc would have an organised plan to have their doors painted a different colour and to achieve this by daubing paint, carving 'NF' on doors and in some cases deliberate fire setting..

I didn't suggest this at all! I'm saying we don't know who is doing this to them, more than likely kids. I know kids used to do shot like this around my area years ago. Besides changing the colour of the door will not make a difference people know who live there.

I used to have a red door, but repainted last summer so apparently my neighbours now know I am not Syrian.

the principle of being accused and having to show ones innocent when the 'evidence for the guilt' has to be established by the person and not the accuser is not one i aspire to..

my point about the person to whom i responded is that there were some nationalities mentioned, Kurdish and Eritrean i believe not Syrians..

the issue is about allegations of hate crime, its sad as i said earlier that some are fine with this mainly because of the fact that those targeted are of a different culture and race..

I thought the issue was about red doors and how some ungrateful migrants have a sense of entitlement which they should not have. If they are truly in fear of their lives then let us create a secure temporary migrant camp and house them there until it is safe for them to return to their countries. And instead, give the homes we are housing them in, to our homeless citizens or those citizens living in very poor conditions
