Charlie says...

Introduced us to stranger danger (and the chance of meeting puppies) but completely missed that children are at more risk with known people.

And Oooooo look he's waving!

Ah, the honking of the weaver bird and poem about safety at work. Amazing what the mind recalls. I don't remember what I ate last Thursday but I can recite those adverts.

If they had them on again at least some "Jeremy Kyles" would get an amount of education. Certainly seems there's a loss of common sense these days.

They used to show us strange public information films at school.

A group of kids visiting a farm and one by one they died. In a silo.. drinking chemicals.. crushed by a farm gate...

Ahhh the good old days.

The voice of 'Charlie' in the 'Charlie says' information films was done by Kenny Everett if I recall.

Random factoid.

We were shown a nightmarish one in primary school about playing on railway lines. Lots of traumatised children!!

I can remember one that scared me but I don't know what it was warning against.

There was an old lady setting a bear trap for someone coming in the door. Maybe intruders or something, it really frightened me when I was a child.

Sounds like an early version of the Final Destination films.

I remember seeing some implied gory films.

The farmer climbing over a stile with an unbroken shotgun. You hear the bang and then see him lying in the floor having shot himself in the leg

And another diy'er in the garage, table saw a buzzing and him tripping over stuff and putting a hand out to stop himself

Put me off power tools for many years
