Useless. 2 months in to a 18 month deal, was great to start off with, super fast broadband, TV isn't too bad, but last couple of weeks, Internet connection can't seem to cope with 2 things connected to it. TV through Internet is fine but seems to take forever if downloading music or films |

Like most ISPs they just resell BT services, so the connection speeds will be due to one of two things. Either the line is not too good - BT issue - or their router ain't up to the job.
That said their customer service is appaling and their security even worse. I currently pay for my mums broadband and will be swapping to anyone else when she moves house in then next couple of months. |

Don't forget; they are the ones whose security was massively breached a few months ago;
Their systems are incredibly insecure.
They were warned several times about it, and did nothing.
Wouldn't touch with a barge pole . |

For a number of reasons I have a BT and a TalkTalk line (both residential), both with internet access, which I aggregate.
Faults on both lines in last 5 years?
One on each and that was only because a car drove into the local street cabinet.
Took one line down and Openreach when fixing the first line broke the second line.
Both lines regularly give me around 70mb throughput individually.
NB Although the physical copper is shared with BT Openreach, Talktalk like some other ISPs such as Sky have their own exchange equipment and as such do not resell BT services |

My brother had talk talk internet his router was always crapping out. I tried looking at the reason I.e was the channel the same as someone else's router. Also the location of the telephone exchange makes a massive difference with adsl the further away the worse the connection also how many people local use the same provider can effect the overall service.
The downside is you're in a 18 month contract but you really should get fibre optic broadband it doesn't lose speed plus most providers give a decent router unlike talk talk. |

That can be changed in the router settings and isn't a problem specific to the TalkTalk router.
NB there's nothing stopping people using their own hardware with any ISP although if you are on fibre rather than traditional ADSL your choices may be limited.
My personal setup is that the BT Homehub & TalkTalk SUperrouter both have their wifi disabled so they are effectively acting as VDSL modems only.
They both then feed into a TP Link router to which everything in the house connects either wired or wireless.
The TP Link then load balances across the two internet connections.
I do accept however that I may not be your average home user |

for reference my recent experience of speaking to both BT & Talktalk was equally bad.
Nothing worse than an offshore support team that is strictly scripted and monitored on what they do and don't actually listen/engage with the customer. |

Actually Talk Talk has significant unbundled LLU
So the copper maybe legacy BT from house to exchange - which. Anyone can provide services over (and BT open reach own)but from exchange to Internet is Talk Talk infra
The problem is they base it on Hawaei - crap Chinese equipment
So either does work or is spying on you
So I am afraid they are not 'reselling Bt services' just piggy backing open reach copper for the final mile

And off the back of that many isps such as Chess, Telecom Plus & Utility Warehouse actually resell Talktalk services rather than reselling BT Wholesale services . |

Does it actually do VRF to balance the links or just use the secondary link as backup as most routers do? |

You may be in your cooling off period? I've never used them and all of my broadband services have been great.
Check for cash back deals on broadband from cash back sites like quidco or topcashback too, as this sweetens the deal. |

It can balance or even aggregate the links for some stuff. I have managed to record throughput tests of 140/40

Dreadful. So was sky broadband. That's because the links are in BT exchanges so they're not done properly. It takes ages to get set up and if you have problems it takes ages to get it fixed. We went with BT and haven't looked back since. |

Both TalkTalk and BT (along with Sky etc) tend to do network maintenance between midnight and 6AM however you are unlikely to find any mention of it anywhere on their residential service pages although frequently it can be found on their business pages but you have to go hunting |

For those on Talktalk (or using any Isp who resells TalkTalk services) having speed issues running speedtests on the below link at varying times of day and entering you phone number will link the results to your account ready for when you phone in
http://www.supportal-test.co.uk/
For those on BT or BT based services a similar test (actually it's in many respects better) is at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ |

Would never entertain using this joke of a company again.
Had problem after problem for ages and finally quit them short of my contract.
It was worth the financial penalty in the long run. |

There's so much that people don't understand about broadband, the line is always supplied by bt if it's crap it's crap no matter who you are with its going to drop out.
As with all providers they have their own equipment in the exchange which could be the issue unless you are on fibre then its all BT, I would call them and ask them to change the profile on your line and increase the snr, this will help the connection if it is the line it'll bring more stability, my two peneth lol. |

I had Talk Talk for about a year with no problems, then there was a massive outage in my area and it took them almost 6 week to fix. I found out that Talk Talk don't pay BT Openreach a service fee so BT actually have no obligation to fix any issues. I left soon after. ive had 3 outages with my current provider in 2 years but they have always been resolved within 24hrs and tech visits are free. Paying a little more but it's peace of mind to have that fall back. |

Don't know about their internet service but they tried to overcharge me by almost £8.00. When I refused to pay, they sold the 'debt' to a collection agency
I got myself a solicitor who sent them a letter before proceedings and threatened them with court action. Got them to pay my legal fee and me £50.00 in compensation

However, unless you are in an area where another Communications Provider (such as Virgin) have put their own cables in (extremely rare), then all CP's use the same network, cables, exchanges etc which is run by Openreach.
This is why often it doesn't matter who you are with, as the service will be the same. |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
I`m out in the sticks and over a mile away from the nearest roadside cabinet, more than that from the nearest exchange. From the nearest roadside cabinet to my house all of the lines are overhead. I have had problems with the line but it`s nearly always caused by damp getting into post mounted equipment or branches rubbing against cables. BT are usually very reliable in repairing faults when they say they`re coming out. On the other hand, my next door neighbour is with Talk Talk and seems to get more in the way of line faults, lots more than I ever seem to get yet both of our phones connect to the same post and post junction just across the road from our house. She seems to have to wait longer for faults to be connected and sometimes faults aren`t repaired properly. If anything, I use my net more than her whilst she uses the phone more than me.
Go figure why I`m with BT and she went with Talk Talk because they were "cheaper"! |

The equipment in the exchanges is different and it's the core network and PoP's which make the difference not the final mile |

Load of codswallop.
Talktalk "rent" the copper from Openreach on a per line basis so Openreach are as obliged to fix faults on the copper as much as for anyone else inlcuding BT Wholesale , Sky etc |

We're with TalkTalk, and First Utility (another company with shocking customer service). In our view the significant cost saving is worth the rare hassle when one needs customer service.
Tip: only ever deal with the 'retention' dept, or choose the "I'm thinking of leaving" option. And remain calm, but resolute. Never fails for me.
