Sadly fella that's true for many couples - it's all about the ladies and as you say sometimes the male half is there to make the numbers up or is someone to be tolerated to get access to the lady.
Nor true in all cases of course, but quite often.
If it bothers you set ground rules with your wife, both make it clear you're BOTH there to have fun and anyone you meet wants to focus exclusively on the lady kick them into touch and find someone else that doesn't!

View yourself as one half as a couple. The people you meet presumably want to meet both of you not just her. Assuming you meet couples this mindset is incredibly disrespectful to the female halves who presumably play with you.
The lack of self respect and bitterness in your opening post suggests to me you need to be doing a lot of talking with your wife about how swinging is making you feel |

We have only rarely encountered this problem, leading me to believe that Mr N is the hot one or the people we meet realise we come as a pair. We make it clear from the outset anyway and anyone who addresses me only goes by the wayside...could that be the problem, you're tolerating attitudes from others that you shouldn't be? |

Of you're meeting couples then the respective female halves will insist that they find the other's male partner attractive. It's not just about having the right female partner. If the guy's not up to others' tastes then it's less successful.
