have been changing over the years. Another post on here made me think what we (as in society)consider acceptable and what we do not.

Are there undderlying rules as to what should change and when?

Do we change our views based on practicalities and societal changes?

Do we hold on to some old-fashioned behaviours because we feel they are necessary or simply because they are "nice"?

Just curious, me!

I think some things are common that we pass on to our kids etc, not just that these things are nice but right and the responsible way to live..

treating others with common courtesy and respect that they afford you, not littering or in general being an anti social arse..

It just makes life, everyday encounters with other people so much more pleasant if we can respect each other.

To me respect is not something that is earnt! I grant it to everybody unless they prove to me through their behaviour that they do not deserve it.

I do understand people getting frustrated and angry sometimes and that in the heat of the moment we all may say/ do things that on reflection we would not do/ have done. I am tlaking more about a general attitude to life and other people.

Manners cost nothing as I say when somebody pushes past or barges me a simple thank you or please goes along way in my book, it's a shame that it seems to be dying out somewhat...

I think people (and society) mostly change their views from experience, as that is how you gain proper insight into anything and understand it.

If anyone talks about something and they have no experience then they come across as dumb as fuck and i don't automatically respect someone like that, sorry.

If society could adopt walking on the left that would be great

The oldest philosophical truth is that nothing stays the same.

Our ideas of manner will one day seem as quaint and ridiculous as when Tycho Brahe died of a ruptured bladder because social mores dictated that he shouldn't get up while the king was seated.

I wonder about how social meejah/t'internet will affect our kids.
